Xenon Bulbs

Was sitting with Marijaunaman today and he asks me what I think about the xenon bulbs used in the auto industry for headlights. He says they are 34 watts and 3200 lumens. Seems it would take between 30 and 40 of them to cover the lumens of a 1000 watt HPS. He figures they could be run off batteries charged with a trickle charger. Now these lights are designed to be bright and for long life. Hmmm, talk amongst yourselves. GS quotes the church lady. Peace GS

Then I think of usable light spectrum emitted by xenon bulbs, has anyone studied it at all?

One benefit would be the fact that you can spread the light sources more evenly over and around your canopy...

As far as heat goes they are said to give off less heat . When we pulled them up on the net the thing that made me laugh was as well as mentioning the long life they mentioned they were made to simulate daylight. Extra cost in start up may be worth it if it is more energy efficient. A lower power bill might take you off the hydro heat score list, a thing I sometimes become concerned with. All food for thought, this is how great discoveries are made. Heehee. Peace GS

I picture an array built with bulbs evenly dispersed. Perhaps some glass to enclose the array, then a fan on the opposite side to exhaust heat out what would be the top I guess. They might need are reflector to spread the light. More research necessary. Need to figure how hot it would get {to figure how close to place to plantys} and the cost of running it compared to the 1000's. Peace GS

there are 100w xenon bulbs too
they need a ballast and an ignitor
the spectrum is rich in the below 400nm range (uv-a uv-b uv-c) so it may be good for supplementation

"In the uptake of nutrients from the soil food web, sulphur is the catalyst for carbon chemistry, boron gives us sap pressure and silicon builds the capillary action that transports plant sap. Only then can calcium, magnesium and amino acids be delivered to cell division sites for chlorophyll manufacture. As chlorophyll catches light, phosphorous transfers energy into sugar production—after which a mix of sugars and more complex products follow potassium through the silica pathways to provide energy or its storage wherever required in the plant."

We found 10,000 watt bulbs, but thought maybe starting with headlights might be more suitable. Peace GS

Automotive HID are in fact Metal Halide or Mercury Vapour lamps, so nothing new to them.
