I'm planning a trip to the dam and was looking for some tips from those who have taken the trip. Best places to stay, best coffeeshops and anything else one might want to know...LOL... I'm thinking around Feb or March....thanks!

Radio Inn Hostel I loved...great place to stay... the others I stayed at (stay okay, and another whose name escapes me) were extremely uncool with many fashionable douchebags packed in around me.
Rokerij Coffeeshop (great NL X haze) Grey Area Coffeeshop (great pot, cool owners) many more, but my memory is "hazy" I really disliked the trendy coffeeshops (Greenhouse comes to mind...the social atmosphere there was not my style in that place, but they had the only Neville's Haze I could find...and some other good stuff actually...just pick up some buds and head for the exit) anyway, hope that helps. crotch |

Thanks crotch sniffer!! Killer handle btw...Was the Radio Inn hostel smoker friendly? I want to stay somewhere I can toke if need be. I've read stories about folks gettin kickedout of hotels for smokin and I would rather avoid such troubles. LOL
What time of year did you go? How was the Hash? Did ya try thre space shakes? I can hardly wait, should be one hell of a good time.... and expensive too. Thanks again. take it easy |

yo sativa science.
here's a page that might keep you busy for awhile. hope it's something new for ya! http://www.coffeeshop.freeuk.com/ACDfrmGu.html We went for the first time in April. Loads of fun, for sure....but if you have access to good buds here in the States you aren't gonna find much weed there in the coffeeeshops that's any better than what is here. The cool thing is really the NOVELTY of it all..and the op to walk in and buy different strains and check em out without havin to grow em for 4 friggin months! The hash was the treat for us. Lotsa good blonds and blacks..and cheap too. 5-10 a gram most places..and if you buy 3-5 gram hunks you may find even better prices. Bubble was EXPENSIVE and not worth the extra $$ for my tastes. Gimme that slab like we used to smoke in the 70's and let me roll up a doobie of mostly hash (screw adding tobacco! YUK) and I'm fine, fine, fine. We hit A LOT of shops. Liked Twede Kramer and the hash there, and it was one of the only places we walked into all week that smelled more like hash than tobacco...so we stayed a LONG time... Bluebird was fun w/ a good selection. Abraxas too. Amnesia is out of the way but had some good T'wreck and Congolese Red on the menu..and a vaporizer for house use. Mellow Yellow is way down south but had some very nice "honey hash" that was the spiciest we had all week. Bought 3 - 3 gram chunks there alone on 3 seperate occasions! cough..cough..cough! Willy Wortels in Haarlem had the best (Amnesia) Haze of the trip. (and the most comfy chairs!) Fruity and stoney...it sure made the train ride back to A-dam a gas. We munched down hard and laughed like kids! The Grey Area had DNA pot...some REAL tasty hawaaian and Cannalope haze. (I grow it so didn't buy it) Definitely worth seeking out. The hash concoctions here and there are OK..but I didn't find them to be overly strong for my body type (tall/skinny) The best tastin cake was at DaKampring (another good shop). $5 per peice. You may catch a better buzz whipping up yer own gig. I've heard that you should be careful eating hash though because of some of the "shit" they may put in it....so that's something to think about. Might be wise to eat the Nederhash or ask the folks where yer at what they think. most peeps we met were more than willing to talk/tell you thier experiences and steer you in the right direction if the "menu" simply blows you away/is confusing. SO many chioices! I'll be going back..for sure. It was a relaxing vaca..though we did walk WAYYY too much! Just follow your nose, bro. You will find the shops! We didn't plan..we just wandered til we smelled weed and stopped and got stoned wherever we were at....then were back out on the street repeating the process over..and over..and over...winding through the alleys and backstreets stoned to da bone! And hey..when you read the reviews of the shops..keep in mind that some folks are just assholes. We were treated well all week..and found no pissy shop keeps or rude folks. We acted like we knew what we were doing..and all went well. we hit www.stayamsterdam.com for accomodations and found a nice (NICE) apartment near Liedsplien that filled our needs well. No hassles...no sharing...lots of privacy. We even had our own canal... good luck and have a great trip. |

Outstanding links Sky High...very much appreciated! I'm going for the novelty of it all. Plus I'd like to see the cannabis castle and the hemp musuem and whatnot!Maybe talk shop with a few breeders whos gear interests me. Much easier to talk about such things face to face IMO. I'm just trying to plan the first few days of the trip and then I'm sure we'll be wondering aimlessly searchin for that smell! Just want to avoid any shady spots, if ya know what I mean. Willy Wortels is def. on the lists of places to go, as I've read many good things on it in the last 7 yrs. I'm thinkin we will rent some bikes, but not too sure how that will turn out! Tryin to ride a bike all baked in a strange city......ought to be interesting!!!lol Well time for the after brunch fog down and then I'm off to get lost in those lnks ya put up!LOL
Thanks again and take it easy..... |

If you're going to talk with A'Dam growers you will be SORELY disappointed! A more close lipped, paranoid and secretive bunch you will not find. A little known secret about The Netherlands is that most of the good weed is grown in little boutique gardens by women who want to make some "black" cash. And the best pot and hash will be found OUTSIDE A'Dam (Haarlem makes for a great daytrip!). sky high is absolutely correct, unless you smoke Mexi schwag you'll most likely be disappointed by the quality of pot, but the novelty is great. One more thing...you will freeze your ass off in February, and get lots of rain in March, my experience is that April is a great month, even early May would be better. Have fun, and ask Jon at The Grey Area for one of my "specials"...1/2 Grey Mist, 1/2 Yellow Cab and a liberal pinch of Grey Mist Crystal mixed in! Ed |

Whats up Ed,
I figure I'll get hit with some shit weather, but its the best time of year for me to take a vacation. April through Dec. I'm busy, busy, busy! I'm not figuring to get blown away by the smoke, but when buying genetics I've limited myself and so being able to walk in to a shop and say gimmee some of this, that and that and try em all is what its all about for me. Oh ya and all the import hash my lungs can handle. Should be relaxing at least! I just saw a houseboat for rent on one of the links from sky high......looks like a pimp palace on the inside..LOL...look 4 me on the blue houseboat, HIGH and FREEZING! LMAO!!! take it easy.... |

The first time I went we stayed at the Ibis, the one closer to the bluebird. We didnt see many other tokers in the hotel but they never bothered us.
The first time we went they were still on the guilder and the exchange rate was fantastic on top of it. You couldnt ask for a cheaper trip. Bluebird was my favorite coffeshop. The people were all cool and friendly. I liked a few others too but my memories are hazy. Oh yeah barnies for breakfast. Good food and good buds. I found some buds that I thought were just as good as some of the best that ever come around my area. You just have to be willing to keep trying new nugs. I was there with 5 others and at least one of us bought a bag or three in every shop we went into. The last night we tried to smoke all the leftover buds we had stored up in our safe. We almost missed our plane. Have a great time. |

If you want to learn about breeding and genetics here are two books that you can't go wrong with.
Breeding Field Crops by Poehlman and Sleper. Genetics for Dummies I wish I saw this book years ago. Unbelievable. Simplifies so much and covers a great deal. Check out chapter 4 if you like inheritance. |

ahh, yes, the radio inn is VERY smoker friendly. It's run by a SUPER nice guy, whose name escapes me, and smoking will not be a prob. and being a non-trendy, not socially oriented, yet very pleasant (to my taste...I like laid back and private) place, it was perfect for me...and close to a convenient tram stop too.
Like they said, the weed you get is some small scraggly stuff for the most part, though you will occasionally find some well-grown juicy nugs (mothers finest at the Pink Floyd shop comes to mind). I really enjoyed being able to sample many haze hybrids without spending the weeks and weeks growing them. That was a treat. The Grey Haze from the grey area was my favorite of the hazes btw. Tried to get seeds through the owner (Adam i think was his name), but the grower he talked to wouldn't let them out. oh well. also--Barney's was a cool place with good ganja...Amnesia Haze made me smile amidst a psychedelic, well, haze. ![]() |

I lived there
You have to know where to go to get good stuff
mostly crap as you say If you dont have a local hookup, you are in swag land. For organic/dried/cured you have Anyday, Katsu, Media. The people you meet here will guide you to other places smoke is good. Mellow Yellows Melon Haze for example if they have some in-is a must! And while youre in the neighborhood grab some cheap Blueberry(its fantastic too) at Noon. Grey Area yea but too expensive on the gram allways something funny on the meny as Dampkring/Tweede Kamer circa 30 different strains to choose if you have money Stay away frow the typical commercial places that I didnt mention. Compulsary -Anyday have the best/cheapest/organic and is close to the sentral station. -Katsu is sativa experts with sativa hash and allways some hot hot -Media cofeeshop is close to Katsu and have some lovely cured snax ONLY ORGANIC HERE. Check that Hindu Kush if its till there If you have money Bluebird, Barneys, Grey Area, Abraxas ALBI |

Do they still sell mushrooms in the head shops????
When I was there in 98 they had a very good selection of dried and fresh shrooms........not sure where, I was permafried on greyarea buds, and bluebirds imported hashish...................I see not much has changed............ Bicycling in adam stoned may be a little dangerous, I had trouble walking those windy busy streets........... If you do go to the cup, if they think your from BC they really want to impress you.........I got free samples and free seeds...............really liked the paradise seeds booth, very generous and friendly............ |

Mushrooms and other "soft drugs" (Salvia etc) are now sold in "smartshops", separate from the headshops.

at the Casa 400 the receptionsist wouldn't know what papers are and the building was as charming as an armee casern, was very hot inside ...
stay okay? definately not "okay", only for "it was a last minute flight and i couldn't find any other place" situations, its not everybodies thing to sleep with up to 13 other people in a room... the Plantage hotel was nice for the price, nothing special, but its has its own charme, just opposite the zoo(Artis), the owner, a russian, is cool with smoking, free internet access, only one PC tough, worst things can be the stairs if you've got a lot of luggage i haven't looked that much around for coffeeshops, they all looked very comercial, but the Nes was a nice place with nice pot imo, loved their ssh and hindo kush happy travels, mace Ps: why is it that all the pot in dam has such a sweet sweet smell? |
