"In the uptake of nutrients from the soil food web, sulphur is the catalyst for carbon chemistry, boron gives us sap pressure and silicon builds the capillary action that transports plant sap. Only then can calcium, magnesium and amino acids be delivered to cell division sites for chlorophyll manufacture. As chlorophyll catches light, phosphorous transfers energy into sugar production—after which a mix of sugars and more complex products follow potassium through the silica pathways to provide energy or its storage wherever required in the plant."

if you are comfortable with it by all means, make sure you pay attention to your buddy's formula for success, nutrients, water temps, feeding ppm's, flushing/replacing nutrient frequency, etc.
also check out the 'Ask Lucas' thread in the Hydroponics forum, he'll give you plenty of reasons why dwc is trickier and not necessarily worth the trouble/risk

You might want to check out Agent Smith's grow tunnel thread. It uses "SWC" (Shallow Water Culture) which is what I use for SOG and it works great for me. It's uses a resevoir under a shallow table that the solution is continuously circulated through.

Lot's of folks like Ebb & Flow for SOG too, you might want to read about it too. E&F is very simple, and uses a minimal amount of energy. Lucas has a lot of good things to say in flavor of E&F.

DWC is very simple and inexpensive to set up. It has some drawbacks, but many growers really like it. I began with DWC and think it's a good way to begin with hydroponics.

Peace,

In DWC SOG you want very little veg time, if any, 5 days would be way too much ime.
ca. 4 plants per square foot, lots of light (>50 per square foot) since you want deep penetration.
2 gals res per 50W of light is a good rule of thumb.

sayning that you grew dwc, does that mean that you did sog grows in that way or did you grow full size plants, because I plan on doing a dwc sog grow when my current grow finishes. I plan on doing it perpetually, six plants every two weeks, if you have any experience with this style any and all input is apprecieated, thank you
