Most power companies accept a power use of 1kw per bedroom. 2kw in an apt isnt a real good thing to contemplate unless a looong vacation is what you are seeking. Common walls.. your power meter needing an rpm meter to read while everyone elses is normal... and of course.... aroma.. along with your managers '
'right to inspect'... a receipe for disaster...

I've seen a successful apartment grow using 3 - 1000 watters. It was very expensive to set up and it was set up right. No noise, no light leaks, no smell, no fire hazard, just 24 lovely buckets all in rows, fed by a 50 gallon rez. It was a flood & drain bucket system that resulted in a lot of pot being grown. I wouldn't do it though ... my balls aren't big enough. :)

even in a perfectly set-up <apt> stealth grow, <read; quite expensive> as hydro said, 'right to inspect', and worse, 'quarterly inspections' <like i used to have> will negate it all.. and from what i've seen, most leases now have them, where that didn't used to be the case 5-10yrs ago.

houses can be worse, depending on the owner.. like if that's their only rental property and they have way too much time on their hands. this information can be found out via casual conversation with the previous tenant if they're still there, or through disguised questions to the owner. (generally the more run down the house is, the better.)

also in houses, (and apts too i suppose,) watch out for annual insurance inspections. i'm lucky because my landlord's policy only calls for exterior inspections, and i'm not sure if a lock on the door with an excuse will fly.. though i think it will. either way you lost the key, so by the time they come back you'll have the room cleared out. ;)

I grew in apartment for 3 years using 2000watts. I never had any problems, just pay your rent & electricity bill on time and you'll be fine. Where I was at the management would send out bug people to spray the apartments and I'd just put a note outside the door telling them I had no bugs and I didn't need my apartment to be sprayed and they would pass me up. Good luck

Anything is possible, Ive seen pics of a small krusty bucket grow in an apt with no problems, though I would advise against anything too complex so you can take it down fast if you have to. Make sure you get one with an attached garage if you can so you dont have to carry all that grow eqiupment infront of all your neighbors. Spare no time or expense on light proofing and odor control and grow a lower odor strain. I personally wouldnt run bubba, sourd, shoreline, etc in there. You could also go a route im considering for a small side grow, a Hydro Hut, mini grow room tent that can fit up to 2k. All up to you just make your decisions carefully and always think safety first. Good luck, peace.

Wanted to add I currently know of a couple small grows in apts locally however they are not taking odor control precautions at their own risk and getting away with it. some people just dont care though.

Just be sure to use over-kill in everything you do. Much better to pay a little extra for heavy duty electrical equipment ... timers, fans, pumps, extension cords, wall sockets, ect., than to be sorry.

I just finished my second 1kw grow in my apartment, but it was shaky as hell. I did a soil grow, and actually had to run ten beauties in black plastic bags and laundry baskets into a detatched garage across the apartment building at three in the morning because of a sudden bug spraying that was going on the next day. Just be sure you can tear down quickly and you account for every security issue that could possibly go wrong. I don't know how old you are or what people you associate with, but remember parties, loud noise, smelling pot (smoke or green) will get the cops inside quick and the rental office in quicker. You have to live very quietly and not draw any attention to yourself. Imho, 2kw is a little large for an apartment bedroom grow, but I've seen one almost that size function well for two plus years. They used the air conditioning vents to run all their ducting so if needed they could hide the whole exhaust system in just a few minutes. Having a fireplace helps because you can run the exhaust through it if its coordinated right. Just be real careful if thats what you wanna do, let us know how it goes.
