...if you got a metal ammo box, use it...it's easy if you have the mounting brackets, a drill, plyers, a screwdriver and a marker...make sure you vent it tho...
...most hydro stores or electrical supply will have safety boxes for around $20...and be pre-drilled with vents

Make yourself a box out of MDF or plywood. Wood itself is a great heat exchanger and you could still cut holes in it and place fans in it as well if you like. Plus it's cheaper! :teeth:

I wish we had the picture of the ballast dolly that Keef Treeez made. That thing was really nice! Remember it?

junction boxes at homedepot make good ballast boxes and the come with punch outs ready. even the large ones will only run you 20~30.

I get a lot of good deals on all kinds of industrial stuff for my studio & growroom from Surpluscenter.com
They usually have a variety of pumps, fans, blowers, etc. They sell "project boxes" which might work for a ballast. Their prices are usually very good. You might also want check out Herbach.com too.
Sheet metal fab shops can also make simple/cheap enclosures any size you need. I had one made to house the oven control relays of all my annealing ovens. It's shaped large and flat, about like a suitcase. It has plenty of room for additional relays.
Thanks for the link for the 600w ballast kits. I'd been looking for a good price for those.
Peace,

...never mount a ballast in wood or plastic...thats why grow room fires are on tv...it is stupid...always use non-flammable...

...i did not attempt to offend, its just my way sometimes... and i'm glad non came of it...as unregulated, clandestine growers, it is our responsibility to exceed any and all safety issues...
...we have an uphill battle, no need to give our enemies ammo as well...

People may laugh but I find that the cheap $9.00 oldstyle metal toolboxes from Walmart work great as a housing for 400w ballasts. They are convenient because they have hinges and the top opens for easy acces, they are easy to drill and have handles for portability.
