Dutch Flowers Chocolate Trip
Type:
Lineage: (Indigo Diamond X Chocolate Thai) X (Chocolate Thai X Indigo Diamond)
Indoor Harvest Time: 50 Days
Outdoor Harvest Time:
Breeder’s Description: Chocolate Trip will please indoor growers looking for exotic sativa quality in a highly manageable hybrid exhibiting the curiously strong chocolaty sweetness and brain-wiring psychoactivity of fabled Chocolate Thai pure landrace. Chocolate Trip's stocky, tight-noded phenotype thrives under indoor lighting, and will reward with an abundant yield of dense buds of top notch headstash quality.

We obtained Chocolate Thai from growers in Hawaii (who also sourced our Lemon Thai, already offered here). The Chocolate Thai had a classically thunderous, soaring high that immediately won everyone's preference. Unfortunately, the superb quality came with a 14 week flowering period price tag. The buds were incredibly aromatic and resin coated, but very spindly, with strings venturing on their own out of the thin main floral cluster, giving it an overall skimpy braided look. Curious structure, definitely landrace looking, but hardly productive even outdoors. Our Chocolate Thai source had warned that to obtain a reasonable yield outdoors, his method was to crowd many plants in a limited space outdoors, in a style reminiscent of hemp grown for fiber.

While the Lemon Thai only needed heavy parent selection, the Chocolate Thai demanded a lot of work to make it worth growing for the indoor grower. We used an Indigo Diamond female crossed to a male Chocolate Thai and selected the best female out of over a hundred seedlings. This female was then pollinized with a pollen pool composed of the three best males of a twin cross where the roles were reversed, i.e. a Chocolate Thai mother crossed with an Indigo Diamond male.

The resulting Chocolate Trip passes with flying colours the flowering time and yield breeding goals: it takes around 50 days or less to flower, and is an extremely generous producer of hefty, thick buds that carry the trademark spicy sweetness of the Chocolate Thai. As a result of heavy selection, the Chocolate Trip exhibits an amazingly short and bushy phenotype: will finish under a meter (40 inches) tall if flowering is induced at 16 inches. This plant will yield an average of 4.5 ounces of exceptionally aromatic buds that retain the vanilla candy taste and trippy psychoactivity of the Chocolate Thai.
The Chocolate Thai has passed all its extreme sweetness and spicy exotic taste on to our Chocolate Trip. The taste is exceedingly sweet, and flavor is highly appealing with a very strong vanilla note over a peanut butter background. It is this extreme vanilla sweetness over a peanutty base that brings the smell so close to chocolate, although we are sure that the uncanny chocolate smell in some imported Thai is the result of a peculiar curing procedure that may include substances unrelated to cannabis.

Chocolate Trip's Indica base hits very hard, but still gives an extremely energetic, lucid, visual high. It has both a lot of "bass" and "treble", yet the overall tune is definitely speedy, like a dance track. The Chocolate Trip prowess is to satisfy the Indica and Sativa lovers equally, even when it is clearly sativa dominant in both high and taste. This allows for a powerhouse high, but there is no "dumb" or "lock" effect: remarkably cerebral and active, with a knack for inducing visuals (as some smokers report colours).

Stocky, tight noded phenotype, great yield, quick flowerer, Chocolate Thai high and taste with a hard punching Indica base make the Chocolate Trip an excellent all-around strain for growers looking for landrace qualities in an easy to manage plant.

tj , if that is the Chocolate Trip x Sour D from Maphial it has one pheno that is an ass kicker. Without a doubt , some of the finest smoke I've ever grown. It does reek in flower & serious odor control is a must. Great high with just enough body to give ya that 'loose' feeling. I put it in the top 3 of my all time . I did find a very distinct difference in potency from plant to plant & only had one of the 7 females that was extreme. I didn't notice a great variation in growth pattern , or structure, but the smoke test made the choice easy. Choco D #2 was far better than her sisters.

very kewl knucklehead...............a friend just put 4 in for popping, along with 4-mortebels KQ, JW's C99, a local grown skunk, and stargazerxbubbleberry....................

Thanks for that info!!!!! this is very kewl, knucklehead your taste in highs are similar to mine, some of your posts on joeys NL, his AK (tastes like cardboard but packs a punch), trainwreck are spot on to my tastes..:D

Hey Bud, hope the info helps . The KQ from Motarebel is also excellent. Yes I think our tastes in highs are quite similar judging from those seed choices. I've never tried the Chocolate Trip & didn't want to hijack your thread , but you have a winner with the Choco D & KQ .
Choco D also stinks to high heaven when it's dry & cured. I have a pack of ( C99xA11) x East Coast Sour Diesel I've been wanting to pop. I may pop them & my last pack of Choco D. Maybe do some Choco D F2's for fun .

Ya know I've had a pack of SSH laying around for 3 years , or so. For a while I was too busy playin' the 'elite strain of the month' crap. I need to pop those SSH & the G13 x SSH from labud.
I did grow a pack of the Grapefruit x Mango BX3 & picked a pukeberry pheno about 2-3 years ago. I still have clones of that mother. I remember when mbb got mad & sold all of his stock off for $.25 a pack . I picked up 10-12 packs when that was going on. Talk about a feeding frenzy.
The KQ is stupifying , but motivational. I think I said it before , but it will make you do "stupid human tricks". These stupid acts are usually preceded by a statement like " Hey man, watch this . I'm gonna jump over my truck with the four wheeler".

I've noticed that the CT cut has evolved quite nicely over the years. She's really packing a noticable speed buzz now. Way more pronounced than it was when it first hit the boards. Many folks around here have commented that it's not a downer type of buzz at all. Same yield, and growth pattern though.

i grew out the Katsu cut and was a bit of a disapointed.

it had a very unique smell and taste and had a decent yield. the buds weren't rock hard but rather loose, they were big buds but there wasn't much weight behind them. the biggest disapointment was the high... it was too weak for me. so it didn't have much medicinal value to me.

just my opinion but then again i am a pot snob :D

The smell is quite similar to a Schnazzleberry mom that I kept from Chimera's seeds. The big difference is that the Schnazz way out yields CT and has a much more potent kick.

I happen to like the CT but won't be keeping it due to space restrictions. I like that some strains don't kick my ass into the dirt.

Hey CannyBus,

What were the crosses, and could you please describe the quality of effect in greater detail? Several posters have indicated over time that the SD cross was first rate, but was one of them the Stargazer cross from Dman? Any feedback on that one would be particularly welcome. :)

Best,

oh like CT x Sour D, and one other I can't remember, I recall that it was enjoyable, but don't remember much more about it, and it's not like I kept notes on it, I never Thought the other site would fold up.

Thanks for the response. :)

I know just what you mean about relying on the info on CW (and OG). I still haven't gotten over it. :exhale:

We don't have access to the Sour D cross, but a pack of CT x Stargazer is calling my name. :D

I really don't know about you guys, but I had some straight CT that was just ridiculously stony. It gave everyone in the room the giggles. Ya gotta take it at 50 days. Not 54, not 60, not 63, or 70. Ya take it at 50 days, and you'll be amazed how this plant has evolved over the past 2 years. You can't go by the pistils on this gal. Ya gotta look at those glands. Ka Ching really has an effect on the potency too. Some plants it works better on, and CT is one of them.
