so i was looking out the window and saw the cat jump about 7 ft in the air, fuck i thought, she is after the humming birds, so i hobbled outside and went to find the cat, my lady friend found the hummingbird hanging from a blackberry vine and the cat about to finish the job, she picked the hummingbird up in her hand and it was blinking its eyes, i was shocked and was hoping it would come back around as soon as she went to put it in my hand it woke up and flew off, that was a close one,.

Awesome shots Vapor...no feeder here, so getting ic of them feeding on the columbine is a pretty tough game.

The cat story too...I used to be the kid that followed around and tried to save every animal I could...so that is awesome! My mom always used to keep a spare cage around...lol...popsicle sticks and medical tape for the wings... But I don't remember the success rate...just the attempts.

i tried the flowers but they all seem to smell of cleaning fluids to me. the lilies were making my head hurt. and i rather grow drugs and vegetables. i try not to hide & i tend to get busy and over whelmed by rest of the growers ops. over all i don't like poisoned seeds shame

So I am not sure how well folks pay attention, but for about 8 years now I have been trying to get my hands on 2 daturas. The peach and the yellow. About 6 years ago I scoped out this house that has both. I have been planning a night assault for years, but my conscience has kept me from it.

Today coming home from work I showed my partner a different way to go. Had not been this way for like 5 years. About 2/3 the way home and I start seeing these huge yellow daturas along the side if the road at a house. There is a sign saying they are for sale. We stopped, oh my dawg she has the peach one too. She says all these are sold go look along the side of the house. It was amazing, she had 6,7, even 8 foot daturas in pots. All I really want are slips to nurse till next spring. She comes back and asks what I would like. She seems like an old Ukrainian lady. I tell her I only want a small one of each. Oh I gotta a deal just for you she says. As she walks we find out she lost her job and that is why she is selling plants. She pulls out two 3 and a 1/2 foot plants. One with a peach flower and one with many bud sites but no flowers yet. She assures me it is the yellow one. She smiles $20. Wooo I yell and hand her a 20.

We drive away and my partner says, man someone should put that lady to work. We both chuckled. Peace GS

So it turns out my daturas are actually not. They are brugmansia's. Peace GS

Last year we had a problem with the maples on the boulevard. They got pm bad. We literally covered them in garden sulphur, not foliar feeds either. Just sprinkling garden sulphur all over the plant. It seems to have given the plant not only resistance too pm{Not killing leaves this year, just covering them}, but cold resistance as well. We have no red leaves yet, while across the street all red, or no leaves at all. Just a note. Peace GS

Ok so yesterday I was out and about I got out at Broadway and Fraser to change buses. I crossed Broadway and was surprised to see these growing on the median in between lanes. My mom used to collect these when I was a kid for her moose stew recipe. I believe she called them shaggy manes. Was odd to be such benevolent creatures growing as close as possible to one of the busiest streets in Vancouver. In the second pic you can see how close the road is. Peace GS

Ok, kozy kotes are NOT the thingies that go around your latte.....instead they are little teepees filled with water that enable you to put out your favorite warm season plant 1 month before your last average frost date. Again YMMV.
I have been using them for my early tomatoes for a couple years now and wow do they work. Yeah sure I bet a low tunnel with a frost blanket would get pretty close to the same results, but the kozys are stupid easy. Here's a shot of this years contestants....
