View Full Version : Need opinions on ventilating a small setup. Has anyone done the apartment bedroom grow?

Hello all, figured someone here would have been crazy enough to put an 8' X 8' x 6.5' grow tent in a bedroom with a locked door.
My question is to what extent will i need to vent the room? Can i get away with an appropriate fan, charcoal filter and ducting? Will I need to directly vent out the window to avoid overheating? What about noise from the vent? Is it really obvious if I am in a multi-unit setting for the site.
I read that perhaps I can just recirculate the air in the room, with the vent not sticking out the window or whatever. Hot air will rise to the ceiling and escape out the open window and cool air will be sucked in via the lower intake vent. Noise is my primary concern really and the obvious problems of overheating or not enough fresh air.
What do the pros on the fantastic board think?
Thanks for your time,
Amarulaman

If you can cool it, it will work. Peace GS

I think you can use a fake windows AC and use it to hide the pipes, i grow in a tent in a room i have fake AC vents to blow the air out. Insulated pipes and a silencer will make it silent to the outside and almost quiet in the inside if you make silencer boxes to the extractors you only ear an whisper, the damn air pumps make a lot more noise.
You can always use AC + Co2 ( but very dangerous )

CO2 from a bottle with a regulator is not very dangerous

if it's a small room it's not that big of a deal, 1 or 2 per crop

What about in the winter, if I vent hot air from the tent out the window into the cold, will I not have obvious vapour or steam? Kinda like a dryer vent outside a house?

I use my hot air in the winter to warm my house, i don't mind the smell , just love to open the door and get the aroma

watch for molds if you are venting into your living space, personally i would not vent into my living space.

I never had mold problems in my grow area, usually humidity lower in the grow area then in the rest of the house.
Do you think it's a problem vapor ? Never tough it would be bad. i can put a hepa filter in the output.

its bad here cause I live in a rain forest and everything is constantly decomposing{black mold starts real easy}, if you had a a big grow i would not vent into my house, a small grow then probably not bad at all, but i would still not do a small grow {where i live} into my house.

Has anyone ever grown in an apartment before? Tips? As mentioned I will be using tents for my flowering and keeping the moms and clones. Damn I wish I could rent a large house.

my best tip is to use recyclable media or no media at all. it looks strange to the neighbors if you carry bag after bag of media upp and down the stairs, but for one tent its probobly not a problem.

I've been growing in an apartment for 12 years, heat and odour control have always been the biggest problems. Memyselfandi in post #4 had some excellent ideas for camouflaging your exhaust vents. I point my vents at one of those window fans. I had a 1000W bulb in a 4'x4'x7' homebuilt grow box for 10 years or so and I needed a minimum 6" inline fan cooling my bulb in an air cooled hood to keep the heat manageable. I was also running CO2 which required another level of complexity to venting the room.So post some specifics about how many lights and what wattage you plan on putting in the tent and then we can offer more specific advice. After my last teardown I was tired of taking apart and rebuilding my Lungbox so I took the plunge and got a 5x5x6.5 tent and we'll see how that goes. I think the bigger space will be much easier to keep cool, it's what I've been finding in the last couple of days it's been running.
