i have 3 same color wires coming out of fan that i just butchered out off microwave. Its a nice profile 300cfm's 120V.
Can someone give me hint on how to wire it. i dont want to short it and burn it . thanx

can you post picture ?

one should be ground.

with a multimeter it's easy to find out

hello
so the two wires with highest reading would be ac/dc, and the lesser value on mulitimeter is ground.
...also i have another question. i dont see any small relay on the wires, that means this fan has no restrictions and i can use straight it with speed controller- right? and how do i test it- multimeter has two wires and fan 3- ??

Ps fans from microwave are so slim- i laminated it into the floor of the cabinet for possitive pressure from low heights where the air is at the coldest. Its roughly 5" tall which is almost as much as toe kick and the frame of most cabinets for stealth grow box option+ 300cfm's -not bad deal at all, for junkyard fan out off "over the range" microwave.

sorry i cant post picture- got in trouble.
thanx all and g.luck

ok, let's begin with the basic.

there are 2 possible configurations.

if the fan is AC of the the wires should by conducted to the case or metal parts and the resistance should be 0

if the fan is DC could be a security feature to measure how fast the fan is spinning like the computer fan

is there any kind of tag ?

if the fan is ac and you miss wire it it could be dangerous if you touch a metal part.

Firstly I'm not an electrician. but I do some of my own electrical work(household and in my garden).

I read and learned (and practiced) what I know. Which gives me the confidence and re-assurance that what I am doing is correct and safe.

I dont step outside of my abilities/know how.

Neither should you!

I could give you the answers but the limited electrical knowledge you demonstrate causes me great concern.

Do yourself and whoever lives with you a favour, get qualified people to do your wiring.

i will have to check the tag inside casing on motor there is one. ive opened it once but only remember 110v...(got ac/dc confused)...and dont worry guys i pay great attention to detail- kali there is not point to come up with all those smart words i do installation design and build hot rods at nights, and this is technical forum so ....ish!

thanx for help

110v is Ac

AC is Alternating current and have phase and neutral, car batteries are DC is Direct current and have positive and negative

Just need to discover which wire is the ground.

Hay whats up!

...so im sure it is AC.
have worked on the design good couple of hours yestrday- reopened the motor:

M20
97069CLF
120V-60Hz
80W 1100min-1
6uf250V
0.72A
3.06

Okay... after i determine ground other two will be "hot wires"
that's doable:)
So it is simple on/off motor, not speed variations- will wire in thermostatic speed control for nice positive pressure (i will check if fan takes this electronic controller without disturbance first)

Thanx for little help on my project
good luck with yours

just discover with wire is the ground and you are good to go.

Air King fans sell for as little as 14 dollars, they are prewired, come with fan guards and are safe.
