Hey all,
Im trying to get tor running properly and having some problems.
It is running with privoxy when I just did the check.
The problem is that I cant load many webpages.
Basicly the only site that works is planetganja and only when I'm signed in with the ssl mode.
So as it is now I have to disable tor then log into PG and then enable tor.
That is the ONLY site that works, not even google.
What should I do?
Thanks

I am not aware of any reason why only one site would load while using TOR, regardless, if you are logging in while not proxied, it kinda defeats the purpose.

If you are using Windows and Firefox, the Tor/Privoxy/TorCP package download is simple and everything should be set up already. Try uninstalling Tor and Privoxy, download the package, and start over.

Also, try going to http://www.stilllistener.com/checkpoint1/ to test your proxy.

Try this....

Start>run>type in "command" (w/o the "") and hit enter.

Type exactly this
ipconfig/flushdns
hit enter.
Reboot and try again.

Ipconfig/flushdns flushes the DNS resolving cache....it just might be the ticket.
Also....if you are using Zone Alarm, make sure DNS blocking isn't activated.

hey john,
It sure does defeat the purpose.
Its funny because sometimes I'll click a page and just get one word or somthing.
I have to try to uninstall and reinstall it.
Thanks

Hey thorax,
I'll give that a try before uninstalling.
I,m not using zone alarm but I do have mcafee.
It works for PG so I dont think the firewall would let one and not the other.
Thanks

Thorax, I tried the ipconfig/flushdns. It said it flushed but when I tried to X out the box that I typed it in it said the program was busy and if I end now I would lose the saved data.
I left it alone for a min but it didnt seem to do anything so I rebooted the computer and the same message came up, I clicked end now and restarted, same problem.
Then I uninstalled the tor package and reinstalled it, same problem.

I dont think the flush took effect because of the message and I had to select end now.
I dont get why it only works with planet ganja.
Even when I'm not logged in I get 80% of the page loaded compared to less then 5% of every other page.
I read the FAQ for tor and I can't find anything to help.
thanks

Well I tried the flush again, this time I typed exit afterwards and got out that way. Rebooted but still have the same problem.
?????

Sorry I missed the *exit* part, I assumed you knew that (my bad).

Something is either causing you to timeout early or to have a bad dns.....it's the only things that will cause your issues.
Feel free to PM me your software setups (DO NOT post them in public) and I'll try to help.
I'll need to know which browser (firefox didn't you say?) firewall setups and any popup blockers and antivirii.....any of them can fuxor your browsing.

I
I loaded the new tor/privoxy package on my laptop and home PC. Both say it's working but on my home PC the Privoxy icon stays blue and doesn't do that green radar thing but it does do it on my laptop. According to the IP check website it's working on my home PC.

When I uninstalled the old privoxy it didn't work I had to manually do it.

I'm going to double check a few things here and make sure it's really working.

Ok my home PC isn't working...the privoxy doesn't load on boot up I have to click on it. Then it doesn't turn turn green it stays blue.
I've uninstalled the old Tor and privoxy numerous times and installed the new combined package but no luck. The old privoxy doesn't fully uninstall either.

Here is what Privoxy says
Mar 06 15:15:08 Privoxy(03584) Info: loading configuration file 'config.txt':
Mar 06 15:15:08 Privoxy(03584) Info: Privoxy version 3.0.3
Mar 06 15:15:08 Privoxy(03584) Info: Program name: C:\Program Files\Privoxy\privoxy.exe
Mar 06 15:15:08 Privoxy(03584) Info: Listening on port 8118 for local connections only

The Tor Log:
Mar 06 15:14:41.812 [Notice] Tor has successfully opened a circuit. Looks like it's working.

Any ideas?

Thanks grasshopper, if it was any easier it would have bit me. It still doesnt solve my problem though. Im going to try to uninstall firefox and tor/privoxy then install again now that switchproxy is gone.
My tor says the same thing as yours bucky, but my privoxy only comes up with the top line:
Mar 06 15:15:08 Privoxy(03584) Info: loading configuration file 'config.txt':

Mine only says this now also after uninstalling and reinstalling everything.

This is a copy of a page that DID load for me with the tor/privoxy on.
This page has loaded this way a couple times for me but no other page will even do anything.
I tried to log in off this page but it wouldnt do anything.
This is a pretty good example of what I get when when a page is not https(if I do get anything).

I also tried a couple things,
I went to "exit proxy" in the task bar icon then turned on the manual config, tried to load a page and got this message: Firefox is configured to use a proxy that is refusint connections.
Then I turned privoxy back on and this time went to "exit tor" and tried to load a page and got this message: 503 connection failed, your request could not be fulfilled because the connection could not be established.
When there both turned on and I try to load a page all I get is: "Waiting for google" for a second then "done" and nothing happens.
I think it's working but just not set up right.

Grasshopper,
I hade mine turned up to 900 when I just read your post a few minuits ago but it still only works for https sites.
Theres got to be somthing with the port for http or somthing.

So what other options are there to surf without leaving a trail?
Even if I have to purchase somthing it's better then sitting here for 3 days trying to figure this stupid assed thing out.
I think I saw a program called ghost surfer or somthing in the store.
I just dont want my IP attached to any pictures.
I have freedom of speech so thats not a worry.
I'm seriously frustrated with this shit.

I'm not so sure that Tor is the safe answer. Here's a quote from their own web page:

"And remember that this is development code—it's not a good idea to rely on the current Tor network if you really need strong anonymity."

If you want to go look for yourself: http://tor.eff.org/
