Hey everybody, hope everyone is doing well. I finally finished the cab I have been constructing. It is a very small cab but it only needs to support 2 moderate smokers. This first attempt will be as much of a proof of concept as anything else.

I decided to get rid of the 150w HPS and swapped it out for 3 26w daylight and 3 42w regular cfl's. The swap cost me some lumen but it dropped my internal temperature about 10

update

I killed the first 2 seeds because I let them dry out. This time I employed my jiffy greenhouse and sowed 3 seeds.

All three beans have cracked and two have started pushing up sprouts.

I will post pictures when they start to get photogenic.

thanks for the encouragement PB

thanks for the encouragement. Do you know what strain and/or growing techniques he finds successful?

I am growing Skunk #1 by sensi seeds, in hindsight i believe this might have been a bad selection for a micro scrog style grow. I suppose I'll just have to try and find out.

high everybody,

plantys are doing well, 2 out of 3 seeds have sprouted and they are working on their 3rd sets of leaves. My cab is running at 84

it's transplant time!

I am using a shallow Tupperware container as my pot, it is large but shallow. I hope to grow the roots in a mat like trichomefarmer (http://www.cannabis-world.org/cw/showthread.php?t=997)did.

my soil is pretty baisic, I got the recipe from ICmag.

had a little scare with one of the ladies, but she is better today.

the other girl is growing much faster. I am watering each with a dixie cup of bottled water each day in a large ring around the plants. the soil stays wet all day but is dry again by morning.

I will do, thanks for the warning. I have fans blowing on the lights so i imagine if they were to break they would be unable to sustian a flame. none the less I will be careful as the herb is not worth my life or the lives of those living here.

Micro update
my plant that never had yellowing is sprouted its first three bladed leaves.

I have a new seed germinating that I hope to put in there soon..

the other girl is doing well however, i topped her at her 4th node yesterday. she is now 3 weeks(or so) old so I'm hoping the seedling that I will be putting in there does alright.

ill post pics later today

I think you can safely move the seedlings closer to the light
the new seedling is all stretched out because it is stretching for light, next time you should try moving the soil closer to the light before the seed pops out of the soil, but keeping it moist of course (use plastic wrap etc if necessary)
it doesn't matter how close the seed is to the light when it pops out of the soil, provided it is not too hot (90F+) but even heat is not so bad as long as the soil stays moist..the seed will quickly acclimatise to whatever situation when it pops out of the soil and it will start building a nice stalky structure, which is especially important in your situation

your temps are fine, it is ok for the humidity to fluctuate but it could be less humid if possible, can you increase airflow? how is the humidity outside the cab?

Sicarii

Humidity outside is roughly the same. I am trying to install another circulating fan now, its a tight squeeze but i think it will work.

what is an ideal RH? i think its at about 25-30% now.

i have 4 plants in the box now. the stringy little guy hit the lights and toasted... more lessons learned more to learn... remaining optimistic. first plant is doing very well. quite stocky and thick stems and tight growth. the others are just seedlings but they are doing very well (following cray's advice on germinating)

I installed a new fan about a week ago.
21001
It's a regular little office fan retrofitted with the fan blade from my 4" inline fan. It is hanging from an eye hook and it is held in place with lashing wire. Its ghetto but it's quiet as hell and it provides excellent airflow across all of the plants.

i'll post pictures of the plants when I can borrow my friend's camera again

Considering you have such small square footage, and I can't see any airflow, this grow screams for some DIY Co2. If your temps are at 85 degrees, and with the uber close proximity cfls must stay to the plant, a little Co2 made from a couple of 2 liter soda bottles, yeast, sugar, water, and some tubing, will do wonders for your grow. When I had my seedling in my 10x20 with 7" dome, I added some Co2 as described above, and they looooooved it. they got perkier withing hours, and growth also accelerates.

Look up some microcab grows. I bet more than one utilizes a perfect room scenario, which means that the room is sealed with no airflow, and given supplimental Co2 to let the plants breathe.

BTW, congratulations on your first grow. I'm a little farther along, but also on my first grow as well. Lastly, don't forget to move your cfls so they are alwaaays 3" from the plant. Seemorebuds has a book out which is little more than a glorified grow journal, but in it he uses about 4 to 5 clfs per plant and got a 1/2lb from three plants grown this way.

Peace,
HT

Thanks for the advice HT. I will look into adding CO2. My little cab is not sealed at all however. There is an intake on the back and an exhaust directly above the lights. The lights are probably 1.5-2 inches away from the lights. I don't know how i would seal the box and be able to maintain temperature with this setup... I will look into more micro grows and see if i can find anything

What are the dimensions of your grow cab. Why not make an dubius cooler, which is a forced cool air conditioner. That would do wonders for such a small place. Also, the cooler temps would also lower humidity. How about salt for a dehumidifier.

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=40637

there is a cheap way to do everything. My advice is to look at some of the micro grows. Some guys got that down to a science. Welcome to growing.

I know that link:kind:! got most of my inspiration from many of those grows. The inside if my cab is 14x15x18 (LxWxH) the height is 22 but my lights take about 3.5-4 in. I will look up the cooler, I was looking into sealing the box like you suggested and I think I may have a solution for that soon.

Salt for a dehumidifier, now that's ingenious!

Thanks for the advice and suggestions
