View Full Version : A big bag of kelp!
Just got back from the beach, and brought back as much kelp as i could carry.
My question is what options do i have. Dry it and powder it? ferment it with sugar?... what would you be tempted to do with it.
(ps drying it might be awkward? and the weathers been wet and miserable recently.)

i think NPK is something like 1-0-2,,try a full hand in a 5 gallon and let it bubble 24 hours with a airpump
it also rise the ph in the soil wich is good
you can put other things innit to make more complete fert
i guess gojo and cray might have something to share
a tablespoon per gallon would be a safe bet me thinks.
ive already started the fermentation process of half the kelp.
kelp was first washed with hose and rain water, to rid excess salt.
i added some ripped up cardboard to bottom of an old wine making container.
i then added chopped up kelp, some cane sugar, molasses with warm water added to get a nice runny consistancy... i massaged the sugary syrup into the kelp, until all the surface area was covered.
Cardboard was placed on top of the kelp and the lid, which isnt air tight, was closed.
Can i ask some questions to those who may know the answers?
Does fermentation work best with air tight conditions? i remember in the bokashi video the wheat bran bokashi was covered with a black bag and all air squeezed out.
What would you have done differently, maybe added some extras?
