Well a friend of mine got gifted a reflux apparatus, so we started extracting hash oil with petroleum ether. It seems to yield a little over twice as much product as the BHO method and it allows us to isomerize the cbd's to thc with the addition of some paratoluenesulfonic acid. This isomerization is supposed to convert 90% of the cbd;s to thc.

my first run i failed to "wash" with water, it is quite black, I contacted my chemist friend and was told why the color was not honey like. Turns out u need to "wash " it with water while it still has some pet ether in it. I will post pix of the current run l8r today and will post pix of it after i add some pet ether and "wash" it. Will also post pix of the actual apparatus.

does it taste like sulfur?

no it tastes fine, it is just very dark. Just curious as to why it might/would ever taste like sulfur?

My guess would be "paratoluenesulfonic acid." Sulphur seems to stick and not be able to be remove from many cannabis products when used on them. Peace GS

aaah, ok we have not gotten the acid from the chemist yet, so we have not went the extra step yet. We can also use triflouroacetic acid instead of paratoluenesulfonic acid, do you think that would be a better choice for the isomerzation?

After isomerization, I would neutralize the ether phase with a carbonate solution, before washing it with water. but then one must be aware of gas-development. but that's only my humble opinion.

I would not use Trifluoroacetic acid, unless I had had access to a proper lab, with proper waste collection practices.

have you read the "Safety Data Sheet" for this substance? Recommended.

Good luck:stir:
