so i'm standing there getting rung up, and my eye's almost pop out.. $25.00 FOR THAT THING??!!

so i went to wallymart and bought a roll of extra-loft batting. it was about 10.00, 81"x96", and i'll get two out of. the $25.00 one is sewn together, but i hot glued it and it works great. (took about a minute to do.)

what does everyone else do for prefilters, and how do you attach it together?

I use cut-to-fit A/C or furnace filters. They're washable, designed for what I use them for, and relatively cheap. You should be able to locate them at any home improvement store with the other furnace filters.

They do a nice "blanket" style furnace filter at Home DePot.Less than $10 if I remember correctly. It's white and comes in a blue and clear plastic bag.99% filtration.

Standard Furnace filters of all kinds are Optimum room filters. They are designed for approx 2400 cfm of airflow. Most of us use less than that.
A cheap way to control mildew and bugs before it can even start.

thank's carpet muncher
i was wondering what to look for cheap
i got a 62" x 16" carbon filter and 81" x 96" sounds
like a good size to work with and cheap enough to
throw away and replace as needed.. thank's man

I too use the quilt batting from wally:) It's my style, cheap and available..LOL
I attach it with a bunch of little zip ties threading through both sides and cinching up:)

first of all, i want to say that i feel like a complete dork for cutting off the original filter, instead of just pulling it off and washing it.

second, after changing it once, i realized a couple of things;

1.) it's too thin.. it needs to be doubled up.
2.) there's no need to hold it together with anything; the suction does it for you. i just wrapped a whole sheet around it and it's doing great.
3.) i'm going to try washing it this time.
4.) i'm going to try a furnace filter, because i doubt the batting is going to hold up. lol

Intake Particle Filter

That looks like a intake filter for a diesel engine. Is it fine enough to keep out mites?

keeps out everything,( it does look familiar, and i have a lot of experience in the asbestos removal trade ( painters and allied trades 137 , Burnaby) maybe you could find one at a HVAC supplier?, saying that it does work extremely well, stats (see website) state possible contamination in MICRONS, and paper filament/ filter is treated with an anti fungal , anti moisture coating
this one is available through www.growell.co.uk check new products or ventilation

but yes tj_142; try a caterpillar dealership / HD Deisel Filters are an alternative for sure, but do not have a small ( 5-6 inch duct attachment)

Marine Depots are also an option ( while there ask about their BILGE BLOWERS- cheap air movement )

Oh , and i reccomend everyone sucking in air directly from outside get one or something similar as summer brings in lots of pest problems
if you can find DIAHYDRO, you need not worry about spider mites any more
( grow in it, and leave unused bag in growroom, dust will spread over plants, slicing them little bastar*s stomaches to shreds) ahh ha ha ha, lol:laughing:
