when to harvest?

I have heard two different things about when to harvest.

1) when 50% of the trichomes are cloudy or amber

2) when 50% of the white hairs turn brown.


The question is. Is there a difference between the two theories or is one better than the other?

I am almost 6 weeks into flower and my "flowers" are huge. I dont want to pluck them to early but I also dont want to pluck them to late. any help is massively appreciated

I would go with number 1 and shoot for 50% amber. Will also give you a good baseline for next time you chop that one. Personally I think in most cases the plant is no where near done when 50% of hairs turn brown. Good luck. Peace GS

Sorry im not 100% sure what you mean, "hairs are to reproduction" could you explain further? Im still new to this...first grow!

The hairs catch pollen to reproduce, Trichs carry the resin/thc:smilesmok:

well ya learn something new every day. Trichs are more important to me so I shall wait till 50% of them are cloudy or amber. Do I actually have to look at the entire plant with a 30x lens or can I look at a couple bud sights and make a guesstimate as to the rest?

I don't like the high power scope's, just use 10x mineral loup, and good magnifying glass. And smell, If light penetrates enough, sum harvest main buds & give the rest another week or two

Good that worked. I'll post more recent pictures tomorrow but here they are at about 2 weeks 12/12. They are in the 6th week of flowering and currently have 7 cfls on them. 5 150 watts 2700k and 2 175watts 2800k. I just removed the 500W blue spectrum cfl. Will post more pics tonight when the lights come on.

those were when they were just 2 weeks, today they are 6 weeks old. Just started feeding two of them pure bottled spring water, the third will start I will start in a week. They are all unkown indicas so I am assuming 7-8 weeks of flower will be sufficient since I want more of a head high. I will post final pictures of all of them this is my first real indoor grow and am very excited about the results, which are mainly in part due to the help received here. Harvest date is set for 1 week for today for one 2 weeks from today for another and 3 weeks for yet another. Check in ill keep you posted
