10-46 are what I use. (Usually 9's are lights or XL's....they'll be right above that.) the 10's are chunkier for a fatter blues\rock\metal guy like me.
I'm hooked on those picks ya gave me....bet I've bought half a dozen boxes already....you should get commission! lol

Ahh Overtoke is a guitar extraordinaire so hopefully he won't mind.
Semi hollow Les paul: Black Limba neck and body, highly figured maple top, amboyna burl headstock, Muy Grande Texas bucker in neck, Muy Grande Barbecue bucker in rear, 4 cond with coil cut. Ebony finger board with LP block split custom agoya shell inlays. The color is a copper/amber burst with natural binding. Custom nickle Waverly tuner's, nickle nashville bridge and tailpiece. It's got some serious ballz with these pick-ups. :)

Elk my friend
good to see ya hope all is well. sounds like one bad ass guitar, nothing like the sound of an electric with a hollow body,-semi or not.
Got myself into a pickle this year.. 14 acres and "oh my where do we put em".
It's so weird finding a trail in your backyard to guerilla grow on...
I can wait until the neighbors are gone to work and sneak around a lot......
Only one neighbor can see us in the woods...
Lot's of goodies planned for workin on this year, Im starting to have fun at it.....
good to see ya.

thanks c-ray, i was trying to do it yesterday when we lost our internet connection for the rest of the day.
anybody here tried really heavy gauge strings, i'm talking like a .13 on the first string? Stevie and Jimi both did this and then tuned down a half step and wailed....talk about tone. :D
LO
Hi Folks,
Eklslayer>>> Sounds like a sweet guitar my friend. :)
When I bought my Strat and my Son's 2 Les Pauls (1 semi-hollow acoustic), I entered a draw at the shop. Low and behold they called the other day to say I had won one of the draws. I hustled down to the shop and picked up my prize....a $300 606 Zoom Box. What a wicked toy man...soooo many sounds/tones available in one fell swoop. Now if I could just pry the fuckin' thing outta my Son's axes....I could have some fun! :D

elk slayer that sounds like a killer ax.i`ve never heard those pickups can you compare them to some others sound wise.
LO i tune half step down on most of my guitars with these 10-13-17-30-42-52
and for that heavy metal crunch i tune drop d(full step down) and go with these 13-17-26-34-46-56 thunderous is all that you can say about them.but half step tuning is the only way to go with any style music.i come from the land of a 1000 studios and i`ve know alot of ax`s for hire and they all tune that way.
dman you lucky dog,you gotta love those all in one pedals,an acid trip with the stomp of your foot.lol

Elk...I gotta fire that bad boy up! Sounds like a Blues MACHINE!
Yeah....half step down is the way a lot of blues and rock guys have gone for years....gets ya fat right now!
I actually have an ESP Grynch Baritone that has 13's on it.....Drop D down a step and a half and this thing GROWLS! Great for Sevendust, Metallica, Shadow's fall type stuff.
Currently have a Tyler Studio Elite on order.....Mamywo semi hollow body STRAT, Birdseye maple neck, Rosewood fingerboard, JB Jr in the bridge with hot rails single coils in the mid and neck, On board preamp with mid boost. The color is called "Jimburst".....picture a Sunburst type paint job but use red and purple for the colors! This will be my second Tyler....greatest sounding blues\studio axe I've ever played.
But I loves my Jackson's for my metal! And the Washburn Dime Southern Cross gets off the wall occasionally for a version of "Walk" and some Black Tooth Grins!
We just started a little power trio and have been jamming at the house for fun...I think we can safely say that we do the heaviest cover of "Wish You Were Here" by Floyd that anyones ever heard!
Now.....if I just didn't suck......guess I gotta spend as many hours in the woodshed as the grow room....eh?
Peace,
Jake Blues

Hey it worked.....right on dude! Wish I could play drums well enough to record....I'm just using my drum machine in my DSW or Acid Pro to build drum tracks. Also got a cool little program from Line 6 called "Rifftracker"...it's great for throwing ideas down real quicly so you don't forget 'em.
OK - How do I get something to MP3 form?....I gotta start doing this.
Do I need a software program or what?....help me out guitar peeps! Thanks in advance.

Thanks all for the kudos. Good to see ya's DMan.
The Muy Grande texas bucker combo sounds just as billed: a much more ballsy take on the classic PAF's. It is probably the only set I have heard that sounds incredible playing through both pickups at the same time. Again folks, elk doesn't play but he is getting a knack for what goes where, as I now know most luthiers in my neighborhood as well as most of the bay area 80's rocker's. Exotic woods and sound is elks forte in the operation. :)
TC- I am trying to finish my next axe for when we meet as I will prolly sell this one. Les Paul with solid ash(very light), highly quitled maple top, tiger stripe maple neck, Hawaiian koa headstock, ebony fret board with the classic MOP block set from fret #1 on down. Its a ways from painting though am leaning towards a cherry burst top and back with natural binding.
Axe #2 in the works should be just rediculously over the top, albeit heavy. Les paul mahogany back w/tummy tuck, highly figured bubingaon the entire front(african rosewood): top, head stock, and fretboard (rare pale red abalone block inlays). It will have an east Indian rosewood neck. Totally unsure what sound I will look to place in this one but it will have sustain to die for.
Currently spraying a few axes for a couple of my 80's rocker friend's as well.
Also, I should begin work on a bass with double darkstar pickups with a body in the shape of the PRS double cutaway. Woods to be determined by customer.
Nice thread
Peace Y'all

elkslayer your doing some nice work.also i`m looking into those pickups i`ve been stuck in a rut the past few years staying in the mainstream stuff of duncan and such.
c-ray thanks and i`m sorry you had to hear the vocals, well really such a bad mix.well one day i try it again.but one thing i got to tell you that avtar makes me want to say "hey get a way from my garden"lol.

Jake The texas in the neck is just friggen awesome. The barbecue in the rear may be a little shrill for my taste. My next build I think I am putting a Muy Grande Texas in the neck and a SD Jeff Beck bucker in the rear. Also, our stand-by setup is a SD lil 59 in the neck and SD Jeff beck in the rear, great sound fer sure.
Peace

i've been through all sorts of different guitars over the years but the only one that feels right in my hands is a Fender Strat.
i have a 92 Fender Strat Plus that i bought brand new, needs a tad bit of work as it goes out of tune quite a bit. i use 11/52 for strings, with a few Boss pedals and a Vox Valvetronix that i like a real lot. i used to have a bunch of Mesa Boogie gear that cost a bazillion dollars but i much prefer the sound that i have now.
Elkslayer, the work you do looks pretty fantastic. i bet they play real nice.

Are bass players allowed in this thread? :spank:
I just bought a Fender J to complement the Fender P I've had for a while, and I like it even better. It's the best bass I've ever had.
I also have a Tele that my brother gave me some years ago. I'm not too good on the 6-string, but I'm learning. I just picked up a Qtron envelope filter, which I highly recommend to any of you disciples of Jerry out there.

all musician's welcome Brother Bilbo. :)
i liked the Jazz Bass too....the feel, the sound, the look....it's a classic.
i'm mostly using my Pod II and a drum machine to do some jamming....still loving the tone on the '71 Strat with EMG's and the active "fat" control for mid-boost. :teeth:

Also, for anyone with clavier aspirations and aptitude, I would recommend the Hammond/Suzuki XK3, which is the digital version of the Hammond B3. I have mine hooked up through my bass stack, but it's also compatible with the traditional Leslie speakers. You can be sounding like Gregg Allman within five minutes of hooking it up.
