If you use GH Flora Series micro/bloom for your lucas formula I could do with some help to check out a theory of mine.

What I need is for someone to measure out 20 litres of ro water, then add 40ml of GH micro, 80ml of bloom and then add pH up to get the pH to 6.2 or very close, then let me know how much pH up they used.

I'm in the UK and the pH up I already have is made by Growth Technology, the makers of Ionic. If you use something different I'll make a good effort to get the same stuff. I also have Liquid Silicon, again from Growth Technology so results for that would be welcome.

My theory is that ro water, although not 100% pure, is good enough for cultivation purposes to be considered pure.

I do passive hydro, drain to waste and I no longer bother measuring pH, I have a float valve fitted to a bucket that gives me ~20 litres a time and I squirt in 40ml micro, 80ml bloom and 15ml Liquid Silicon. That gets tipped into a bucket on the floor and that's what the plants get fed every day. It works. Maybe a few rust spots on the larger plants if I miss a feed or two but no never mind. (Have probaly got the pH a bit too high.)

As part of my 'Skill Free First Grow Project ' (where I am realising that my ambition exceeds my talent) the idea is for new growers to copy my nute mix and therefore do not need ec or pH meters.

Before anyone tells me that meters are a must have, this is just for their first grow, the only objective is for them to get bud into the jars as reliably as possible and imo a predetermined mix is better than what they are likely to come up with themselves for their first grow. Comparing the cost of an ro unit to a set of meters, well there isn't much in it.

It's a bit unfair to ask a new grower to do this based just on my theory so only proper that I test it first on my grow but I don't have access to ro water from another area.

btw, If you need pH down with lucas formula and ro water well that's my theory blown out of the water. lol

So assuming that's it's always pH up needed, once you have told me how much pH up to use, I'll be using that nute mix for my next batch of seeds all the way from new sprouts to harvest. Will post results if you want.

GH have said that their stuff is the same for both US and Europe, just different labelling laws apply. We'll get to see if that's true as well.

My next batch of seeds will be started on the 23rd of May.

hi, lazi, how are you! i don't have any ph up, so i can't perform the test for you, sorry! but, seeing your "skill free first grow project" i can add something that makes it very easy for a first time grower to succeed.

try using maxibloom, which is lucas in dry form at ec 1.5-2.0. mix your tap water and ro water 4/16 liters just for ph buffering ability. with no meter use 1 tsp per gallon. you will get an input solution around ec 1.8-1.9 with a ph of 4.6-5.0 depending on your tap water. your root zone ph immediately after watering will be around 5.7-5.8 = trouble free growing

If you use label directions for the GH 3 part, you don't need any pH up.
