hello i am ready to build a vert system ,for reasons of square footage allowed in my county.
I am having a hard time deciding which system to go with, first soil or hydro? the soil system that koot built seams execlent, solid, simple, low cost. but will the yield differ that much from a vert hydro.
smokeindgo built a amazing hydro system as well (not sure of how the flow of nutrients work in it yet. otagonhydroponics has a system that is nice too just a lot of cash...either way i am going to use a vertatube for heat reduction. 4 600wts i think also i have 10 ft ceilings....
any recomendations from the jedi council would be greatully apricated.... thank you

personally I like soil but it is a little more work keeping all those pots watered
I recommend growing in the style that you like best and grow the best meds that you possibly can...

I prefer soil too. It's more forgiving than hydro as far as moisture retention goes. Watering by hand can be a pain in the ass, but I've used drippers on timers before with very good results. I had a commercial set-up once where I only had to attend every six days to refill the reservoirs. I got terrific yields and not a single plant lost for almost two years.

I think hydroponics might yield a little better if all else is equal, but often problems arise in Hydro that are less likely to cause problems in soil or soilless mix (pythium for one, pump or power failure for another).

soilless mix is my preference after trying many different grow styles. my buddy fills hanging pots with coco or promix and hangs them off of a suspended wire mesh encircled around a single 1000. the hanging pots naturally lean in toward the lamp so he just unhooks the plant so he can water evenly and replaces it. he averages pretty close to 1 gm/watt with a diy system made for about 40-50 dollars above light and ventilation costs.

thank you... I think i am going to go with the pot rack kin of koot... and do drippers, what do you all think about 3 1 galllon pots each tear of a octogon, 7 tears high like he did, if i run the dripers (laser line?) should i use different pumps per tear.... or start at the top and wind it down.
i am so excited...! thank you for your direction ....
