Hi all.I was wondering how big my res should be.I have 24 plants growing in a drip system. Is 25 gallons enough?I let the plants veg for 12 days so they will be medium sized.I am growing under 2 1000 watt hps lights.I do have time twice a day to do maintainence.Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Nick

welcome,
25 gallons for 24 plants is like saying just over 1 gallon per plant...
things like plant size, stage, environmental variables, and wetter/dryer media effect watering volumes.
how frequently do you want to refill your res, and how much your plants drink is 'in your court'
sorry i can't be of more help due to the given variables,
good luck, dig in, and enjoy C-W:tiphat:

Thanks for the quick response.I will give some details about my setup, and I would appreciate feedback from you guys.I have tried various methoods of hydro, but I am currently trying something new.I took a 4x8 sheet of plywood and drilled 3 inch holes in it evenly spaced. There are a total of 24 holes.I then coated the entire sheet with white fiberglass gel coat.I added some 3 inch pvc pipe as spacers under the plywood, and they sit on top some corrugated plastic roofing material. It all flows downhill into some plastic gutter, then into my res.I rooted some sensi star cuttings in small rockwool cubes.I then took some 16 ounce plastic cups and drilled holes in them.I put the cuttings in the cups, and then added hydroton around them. Each cup sits in it's own hole in the plywood, and has one dripper in it.My res is a large white cooler, and holds 25 gallons of nutes, and four 1 gallon plastic jugs that I freeze and rotate to keep the temps in the res down.I use two 4 watt fish tank air pumps with four air stones.I have two pumps that cycle nutes 1 hour on/1 hour off during the day cycle, and 1 hour on/2 hours off when the lights are off.I have 2 1000 watt hps lamps. My veg area, which is in another space, has 1 400 watt hps.My intention with this setup, was to let the roots grow down from the cups onto the corrugated plastic. The bottom of the cups are about 3 inches above the plastic. My space is about 7x10.I have a 780cfm extraction fan pulling through a carbon filter.I also have a fan pushing in outside air.I use the gh 3part ferts, and r/o water.I live in a hot humid environment,so the lights run at night. My room temps are between 78 and 84 depending on outside temps.humidity with lights on is about 65%.I'm running my ppm's at about 1100 right now with ph around 5.6.I am 2 weeks into 12/12 light cycle. The plants are using about 3 gallons of water a day at this point. The plants are looking great right now.Any suggestions on how I could improve my chances of success would be greatly appreciated.

You can use a 12v computer fan mounted to blow into your resovoir and it will drop your nute temps down almost 10*'s enough to not have to use the frozen jugs, if 1 aint enough use 2, We found great success doing that with are first stealth 400 watt scrogs, I like KISS so the jugs are out for me. Maintaince should be limited to training Imho. Good luck!
