View Full Version : Feminised seeds
The trend lately seems to be in "selfed" seeds. I've always been under the impression that seeds that result from hermies (which are usually self pollinated - ie the seeds come from the same plant that sprouted the male flower), result in a higher proportion of hermaphroditic offspring. Was I mistaken, or do Dutch Passion and Greenhouse Seeds (who are selling tons of feminised seeds), have a special process that doesn't result in hermies? Anyone familiar with this process?
It seems to me that making a large batch of feminised seeds through self-pollination would have a lot of advantages over regular cloning.

the female seed thing is just marketing
there are different ways of changing sex, some use chemicals others just wait for late stress nanners in the end
they stress test the pedigree and then reverse
your talking about S1s, right?
it is only the genetics that will tell if it is a hermie or not
take a look on the posts about STS and reversing
Thanks Albi. I didn't realise there was a difference in the pollen of plant that had been induced to hermaphrodism by chemical means from that of light stress.

I have found a few seeds, on the girls, between branch nodes. single seed. Out of 37 girls I got 23 seeds. None in the bud, and not every girl.
So would that be natural femed seed?

Sounds like one of your males popped before you culled them or a rogue male preflower popped and pollinated the female preflowers.

Thanks Lungus, never had it happen before, but it saved my ass. Cuse my pollen from my males did not produce, my fault. And these seeds are twice the size, of the one's gifted originally. makes sence, happend during sexing.
Thanks again
It's down to the breeder imo. Best to read opinions from a lot of forums before choosing the breeder of your first fem seeds.
I've been using Paradise fems for a while now and am happy enough to keep using them.

those early seeds are the best since they had so much time to develop and especially since they were a product of the sun...hopefully the sneaky male was a good one

Hey,
Anyone ever try DM "Reverse"? I have my doubts but id be interested to hear first hand results. Might be useful with fem seeds to prevent hermies:

OH yea,
About a year ago I had a ton of data and info about using IAA to feminize and/or change sex (I don't quite remember, too much herb and other things thought about I guess...). But if my memory serves IAA can/will change the sex of a plant which then causes feminized seeds. I had a USB-drive crash and lost a LOT a data :(. But the info is out there. I don't remember the exact concentrations and application methods but it's very sound and well studied. As far as I know it's never been used on cannabis.
I was going to test it so I ordered IAA (along with many other PGR's from www.super-grow.biz )...but by the time I got the IAA I had lost the info.
I hope to re-research the topic when I have free time. It's not something I'm too interested in as I believe we should let Mother Nature due her thing...but it's fairly interesting. One thing I like is that using IAA should provide more 'stable' results (and much more consistent results) vs stressing and using harsh chemicals...
I found the IAA feminziaton info when researching neat info on using IAA when topping. If you top the plant (at the node I believe, I lost this research too) and then apply IAA to the injured stalk it allows apical dominance to continue just as if you'd never topped it. I assume this means one of the lower branches would become the apical. But again, as far as I know this has not been tested on cannabis.
There once was a recepie useing sodiam nitrate and sodiam thiosulfate a few years back anyone rember the amounts?

the s1 i have seen had a percentage of fuckers and about 25% exceptional as good or better than the mom.,., imo i dont think chemical inducing a female is a breeding strategy.,.
.,.,it is a good tool, for being able to look into the history.,.,.,.

Those 3000 seeds must have been pricey from the king of cannabis himself lol
My friend gave me some weird Dutch fem seeds to try and I popped them, they sprout as albino with no pigment on the cotyledons weird??
Then I sprouted a few of C-rays texada timewarpx Nepali to reveal beautiful dark green sprouts. Go figure

Nothing wrong with femmed seeds if you know what you're doing...
When I say that ,,,I of course mean make them yourself..
Therefore you have no doubts...
I wouldn't pay a dime for any from somebody else..
