Here is a thread I found on another bulletin board site. It refers to using a keyword to delete a private message, making it a once only read. Admittedly I dont understand coding, etc, but thought id ask if it would be possible to do using the BB software here at CW.

it seems like a good idea if possible, given the anxiety that was created with the demise of cw 1.0 and the seemingly undeleted pm's with private info.

huh... looks cool.. unfortunately, I'm not an admin because of my technical prowess.. so i don't know if it's something we can get to right away. I will hand this off to the techie admin for review.

don't know if that would help to improve the security if you choose to send out private info. PGP is way better, but do you really know who are you sending it to?

I know the admin at the site where this is being implemented, so if there is interest from the powers that be I think I could facilitate an info exchange.
I think it is worthwhile, im curious to see what admin and members think.

Hi mace, I understand your point of view completely, I personally WILL NOT ever exchange personal info thru the private messaging system. however there might be instances where members exchange ideas and info concerning, for example, scale/size of operation issues, and may want a bit of reassurance that such a message isnt let in a folder by the reciever for an extended period of time.
As well, I think this measure can only help to ease paranoid minds in lite of recent events.
Just an idea, it seems someone has already done the work.

that forum is using Invision Board software, but I will see if we can do something similar here
I dont see this being impossible at all .. definitly something that can be coded into this forum. To be honest though, I dont see it being priority for now, but I will add it to the To-Do List!
Definitly a neat idea.
How I see it to work .... User-A sends message to User-B with 'Kiwi' in the subject line. Once User-B reads it and closes it .... the forum marks a 'already read' tag to the message .... during this process ... scan for the word 'kiwi' (or what ever we want it to be) ... and delete the msg if 'already read' tag applied.
