View Full Version : whats the best way to start seeds
Ive read here that people soak them in water, put them in paper towels that are wetted , and somewhere saw using a box of matches and some sand paper and shaking them but what is the best way. i got 30 nl seeds that i have in my dirt right now and i got my lights on them and am keeping the dirt wet and using some miracle grow. i got some other seeds of some good skunk weed that i freind had and its pretty good it was $60 for a half quater so i think the weed would be good to. should i soak these in a wetted papertowel? if so then how long till i see it grow and should the lights be 24/7or no light at all for the first week?

You don't need light to germinate seeds but it can't hurt.
You need water but if you keep the soil too wet the seeds may rot before they pop.
And, you most certainly do not need any fertilizer to germinate seeds. Furthermore, this can hurt the seeds if/when they do pop.
ok thanks guys ill make sure and keep them not to wet and maybe water only every other day and not twice a day because the dirt stays pretty wet

i have always started my seeds in between 2 layers of a moist paper towel and always have close to 100 percent germination once they sprout the taproot i transplant them into dirt and they usually sprout the next day or so out of the dirt

!st thing to remember is we are dealing with a weed that has strong self-survival traits. In nature the seeds fall off the plant and in the spring if they get enough moisture they germinate. We try to improve on nature where we can. I soak the seeds for 24 hours in water with a drop of superthrive and a drop of hydrogen peroxide added. Then I soak the paper towels with the presoak water and place the seeds in the folded towels in a zip lock bag and kept warm till tap roots emerge.

if ya got them in dirt jsut mist the top with a water bottle and stretch some saran wrap over the tops of the comtainers and leave it alone until you see them pop the dirt then take the saran wrap off, never fails.

Straight into soil. Keep misting top. Doesn't always work . but usually does.
Room temperature makes a big difference ime. I've been starting seeds in the veg tent under a 400w cmh for almost a years no and the first to pop up has gone from 4 days to 7 or 8 as it gets colder. Still haven't got round to putting a heater in there though. :)
My method is to use peat pots filled with 50/50 perlite vermiculte (the finer stuff sold by garden centers in 5 litre bags,) standing in a tray of water about an inch deep. The seed is an inch down, no presoaking. Apart from the wet pots being a bugger to handle, it's about as brainless as it gets and 100% germination with fresh beans.

I put 4 or 5 seeds folded in a paper napkin. (not paper towel) I slide the whole thing into a zip loc freezer bag, seal it up and sort of stand it up in the kitchen cupboard and close the door. Since the bag is standing like an envelope on edge and leaning against something, when the seeds sprout the root will grow down between the layers of napkin. Usually.

RO water in a small plastic cup. Drop seeds in. Done.

in my opinion u just put ur seeds on a little dish place a little thin piece of loo roll or paper towel on to ur dish then place seeds on top of loo roll then put another thin layer of loo roll over ur seeds n watern, drain of excess water n then leave on a window ledge in a warm room keep moist n between 2 n 7 days they will germinate! gauranteed, just normal tap water will do, b patient n ur girls will pop! ive never failed to germinate a seed this way! ps dont use coloured paper towels or loo roll with couloring in it! good luck dude! peace out!
