Hi. A friend is thinking about getting a diesel generator and is worried that the noise from the generator might arouse the suspicion of the neighbors. He is looking for help as to how to reduce noise, while still keep the generator outside.

Unless it's possible to keep indoor...? But what would one do about the toxic fumes?

Thanks.

I think you should dig a hole for it, and build a box for it so it sits below ground level, insulate the box and use flex tubing and adaptors from an auto part supply place to hook up a small car muffler to the generator

If your really serious get a silenced unit like they use in the film industry. Placed inside a garage in an insulated box with the exhaust and air intake plumbed to the outside it would be almost silent. This is talking major bucks though.
