Thanks first in advance to any/all who are reading this and offering advice.. it is always appreciated..

As mentioned in thread:

https://www.cannabis-world.org/cw/showthread.php?t=292

I've done a considerable amount of work to get my new outdoor soil/grow area ready only to find I've got a ph level of 7.8...

To try and rectify the problem yesterday I added E.B Stone organic ph Adjustor...which is essentially little pellets of sulfur...

Is there anything else that can be done or should be done...??

Thank you again..

Sulphur is an excellent means for dropping your ph. It might take a little time for it to dissolve into your soil but once it does it will remain and drop the ph. Just give it a litle time to work and I wouldn't add anything else to it. Hopefully you got the dosage right, thats all I would be concerned about.

After all your hard work, has the pH gone up or down? My best guess is that you have a lot of calcium carbonate in natural rain runoff. Adding greensand or rock phospate will cause an acidifcation of the soil and add to the bloom potential....but they take time.

Did the area fill with weeds over the winter? If so you can relax....if it's been deadpan then you'll do well to add admendments. As biomass is added the pH tends to drop due to the heavy organic acids relased from composting biomass.

I've had most of my outdoor growing in slightly alkaline soil. I'll take a pH just over neutral so long as the drainage is excellent and the soil rich. Rather than pH, I've found it harder to deal with the drainage issues in clay soils, soil "richness" in decomp granite.

thanks to all for the input...

I think I'll let the garden sit for a week and see where it is then... It has been watered heavily since finishing and putting the sulfur in... I'm going to put tomatoes in two weeks form now then the ladies in about 4-5...

old toby... my old grow area isn't the same any more..yeah last years area sat idle thru a socal winter...if you can call it winter...weeds grew etc...

This year however to get the deeper soil for the roots and to just enlarge the garden I raised the old garden and area around it so it is now double in size... this required I move in 5 yards of top soil(amended) and compost from the city (the city admits it lacks manure)... I then added 20 bags (40 cubic ft) of good potting soil and 20 bags/cubic feet of steer pooh...plus blood meal, bone meal, some dolomite, worm castings and epsom salts...

My point... I don't know what the hell the ph was...just what it is...

Hopefully I can get it corrected...

Our water is so alkaline to be on top of it more this year I've even placed a large trash can by the garden which I fill, declor and adjust the ph to 6.8.. So far the area has been watered with about 180 gallons of water... all balanced ph...60+ gallons have gone on the garden since adding the sulfur..

Now as mentioned...wait... but did want other remedies in que... in case needed... thus my question today...

Coffee grounds........I think you may have a few of those around OLU.

Let it cook a while and see how the Ph changes over time.

As a matter of fact...

I have EJ... Grow, Bloom and Catalyst leftover from my indoor grow....that I had planned on using in the outdoor..

ahhhhhhh fate...

After posting the other day I let the garden sit following a good watering with 6.8 water... and I noticed in most areas the ph had dropped slightly from 7.8-8 to about 7.5.. so maybe the sulfur is starting to kick in a little...

I'm still about 12 days from putting in the first tomatoes...then a good 4+ weeks for the ladies......

Thanks to all for the kind input..

That sounds like great news. Do you know what you're going to run this summer?

Triple Super Phosphate lowers pH. MJ loves plenty of phosphate for flowering. I've actually used it for lowering pH in my hydro system and raising "P" levels. The plants rewarded me well, so I assume that they were happy.
