what kind of plants do you want to grow?
if you want to grow cannabis you can use the fluoros for their early growth (the first month) but you will have to keep them very close, almost touching the tops of the plants
you would do better flowering them with an hps, even a 250w would be enough, but it is possible to flower them with cfl's (compact fluorescent bulbs)
if you have to use fluoros I would get some cfl's instead of the shop lights (ge gro and sho for instance)
you can get y fittings for the cfl's and screw a few of them together to make a fitting that will hold 4 or more cfl's
remember to use daylight or cool white (blue spectrum) cfl's for vegetative growth (early growth) and the warm white (red spectrum) cfl's for flowering

GE also offers a flouro called the plant and aquarium tube and it is excellent for growing. The gro and sho might have replaced it but I don't think so.

fluroes are great for the whole grow.you can have the leaves touching the bulbs and still not damage the plants.they get up close and deliver great light tothe plants.you might want to mix a 1 or 2 warm white bulbs with the cool white ones, just to ballance the light spectrum out.but it's not nessesary..budeeee

takes an average of 80 watts to grow each plant properly. converted to lumens. how many plants you got? = number of 40 watt tubes you will need.
1 400w MH will veg 5 - 8 plants as you can use a 50 watt scale for veg but 80 watt for flower. that means 10 cfl T5 tubes = 1 400w MH = max 8
damn those are some great looking plants!! i was worried that i wouldnt get good buds from my floresent lights but those look great i think ill get some cfl bulbs too or maybe use just those if they are better
