I was gifted some Avid from a fine member some time ago. I've been sitting on it. Waiting until the borg got way out of hand. Well they're out of hand now!! It's time to go to the last resort.
Avid.
Anyone have the mixing instructions for this stuff? I've seemed to have lost them.
I think I've got enough to make a gallon but I'm not 100%. Don't want to guess and dilute it to much...These suckers gotta die!!!

back in the olden days it used to be around 6 drops to the gallon but with todays mites it could be more
if you have subscribed to using poisons there are much safer alternatives such as floramite and pyramite

Thanks c-ray.
These thing's are driving me mad. Nothing I've done has worked. I've tried all the "safe" sprays easily bought or made. Some did more damage then the mites would have. Still without killing them. So I cleared out and cleaned, repainted, restocked with mite free plants. I thought I was good...well I was for a few months. Now that the nice weather is here I'm overrun....
I havn't tried either of those. Do you get those at the hydro store? Maybe I'll have to go on a road tour...
Like I said avid is a last resort.

get penetrator from dutchmaster too if you can and mix it (20-60ml per liter) with your pesticide for increased effectiveness
if you are in the usa I think you can get those online

mites are about the worst scroge we can get....
Avid gets them. IF ya use it right.
the label says 8 to 10 drops per .. quart.
spray everything in the area... critters hide in small places.
do it again in 3 days. 4 days max.
do it again in 3 days. 4 days max.
do it again in 3 days. 4 days max.
Their eggs are almost indestructable but they hatch quickly. The repeated
sprayings get the brand new mites.. but they breed quick too.. soo ya have to do it..and do it.. and do it...
if ya dont.. ya end up with Avid resistant mites... not a good thought at all.
No fans... and cover up while spraying... good to shower immediately afterwards too...
Once ya spray... leave the fans off for 6 to 8 hours.

1/4 tsp (1.25ml) per gal, mixed and sprayed in well ventilated rm, (fumes can give you a headache.. and might trigger a migraine,) no need to drench the plants as it's systemic.. a light mist over the tops of the leaves works great. (though drenching won't hurt your plants at all.)
since some mites are resistant to Avid.. and since it also kills on contact, (so you don't have to wait for them to bite the leaf to see if it works,) and is also a neurotoxin to humans, if i were you, before i sprayed the whole room, i would isolate a section of an infested leaf, *lightly spray the mites, (*so you know if it works and you didn't just drown them,) and then look at it/them under a scope.

hydro, with all due respect, Avid is systemic and stays in the plants long enough to cover a hatching cycle.. 6 days i think?
i had an infestation from hell.. battled them for 9mos befor i could afford the Avid.. and at the time i had just under a hundred plants around.. and shag carpet! lol! anyway, one shot did it. is it possible the area was somehow getting reinfested? or did i just get lucky?

if you can get pyramite it works way better than avid, and here in canada it can be acquired without a pesticide applicators license, it's approved for spraying on strawberries up to 10 days before harvest so the toxicity level is probably much lower

the 'every 3rd day' was based on some Avid resistant critters... it makes sure that even those are nailed. NO mercy on mites!!
1/4 tsp per gallon is what I use. So far, one application of Avid has taken care of mite problems for me. I thought I would have to reapply after a few days to get newly hatched mites, but the first application took care of them. I just recently was reinfested with mites on some clones I picked up from a friend, but one shot of Avid took care of them.

Awesome!!
Thanks for all the input folks.
I'm about 2wks into flower. Am I still ok to use this or should avid be used on vegging plants only?

i only use it on vegging plants but i seem to remember Shipperke saying that Avid only had a 48 hour half life.
maybe somebody else with a little more knowledge will chime in.

if you're growing for medicine the answer would be no...it would be better to flush the room with a high ppm of CO2

Im dealing with the same concerns myself.
Finally moved out of the trailer so I can close the cat door now!
Im thinking of going with a time mist dispenser and pyrethreum bombs...
But the manager of the club suggested avid for dipping clones when cutting them... I have not tried it yet.
For flowering plants i prefer SM-90, it's a bit expensive but does not wreck the plants, in fact it seems to improve thier health overall and make them shiny clean. No residual taste effects, like the greasy kitchen taste to "safers insectidal soap" or such like products...
C-ray Im gonna search for the pyramite and hope it's allowed here....Sounds great. Good to see ya also, been wondering where id find ya at! Take it easy...

Thank's again everyone.
I think I'll hold off on the avid for now. I decided I didn't want to spray this shit on flowering plants and my moms being in a different room don't have any mites. So I'll leave the avid on the shelf and make the tour to the city and find something safer at the hydro shops.

Im not real worried about the toxicity level, here's why.
If I used it outdoor now, it will be a full 3 4 months before they flower.
If I use it indoor- it will be on cuts and possibly seedlings in case of re-infection. (cats can be sneaky at times) So anything they will come into contact with will have months before they will be headed for consuption.
The Sm-90 works good for buddage, if anything adds a citrusy flavor, and an overall heathy shine. I'll be getting some of that, looking around for flouramite.
But in the meantime Im going to use the piss out of this avid im expecting anytime now, Im mean them mites are through. Through with sucking the clorophill from my girls. I got ammo now.
The 10 day kill time is perfect for up the hill, I can really only work up there two days a week-on anything requiring supplies like watering and spraying.
In two days a week on an outdoor grow, I'll be doing real nice this fall. if I don't fall. Something like 60 up there now, but im sexing 4 strains so there's a few males in there. Im med status and I'll keep from fed status, I should be alright. The sheriff's in my county are kinda "nazi" though. Like to beat people up and stuff. Im not trying to get documented this year. L.O.L.
Im already documented in the next county over- now im in hiding and home just after sunrise.
this should be a fun year, im not the only one testing my gear this year....
Lots up my sleeve guys, lots... Got an old nickname i recieved for a reason.
Nevermind when or where, but it's for popping up with things no-body else has- or admits to having . Maaybe i should change my handle.
Because "felix the cat" is about to bust out his "magic bag of tricks"....
Thanks for the pleasant ambiance here guys, reef thanks for letting me rap about my gear here on reeferworld. And most of all thank you all for making this site such a pleasant experience.
Be on the lookout for "pheonix" to rise from the ashes... L.O.L.
Oh shoot where am I? Im not in my trailer trash grow I must be stoned.
Oh yeah, Im in heaven beacause mite death is on the way.
