all depends on the footprint of his garden
a 600w with a horizontal reflector will effectively cover a 3x3 foot space, so 2x 600w will cover 3x6 feet which should be plenty of space for 8 plants
imho light movers are more suitable for vegging plants since there is less light requirement in veg....in flower you will be spreading the light around and the gains might be minimal and possibly not be worth the effort, especially with a 600w which does not have the canopy penetrating ability of a 1000w...a 1000w is more suitable for a light mover than a 600w
on the other hand with a light mover you can get the lights a little closer to the canopy since the light wil always be moving, but still you will need to keep the temps below 90F regardless

2x600w covers a 3'x6' space while 1x1000w without a mover covers a 4'x4' space, both offer roughly the same light concentration about 60 watts per sq. foot, if you add a light mover you will dilute the light concentration so that you will be able to add more plants but there will be less light hitting each plant...yield will be pretty similar in either scenario...

ok thanks for info it much appreciated, think his growing area is roughly 4ft by 8ft and gonna have 8 to 10 plants he is thinking off getting 2 1000 watt lights but do you think 3 600 will give him better coverage and will b less electric useage with no loss of yield perhaps more?thanks again for your help

If heat is not an issue more is better. 2-1000s being more. Good luck. Peace GS

the only problem with light movers is the fact that half the time the light is over there and the other half the time the light is over here.

If heat is not an issue I can think of very few situations where a 600 is the best option. Because the space is 4' x something, I think the 600 won't cut it. Perhaps if you said 3' x something it might work out. The problem being the foot print for a 600 is only 3'x 3'. Once again I state that if heats not a problem go big. Peace GS

ps. 600 ballasts and bulbs are almost twice as much as a 1000
