Suspicious of strangers peeking in the windows of his home, John A. Pierce called Fox Lake police.
When police arrived, they looked in and saw a crop of cultivated marijuana plants growing in the living room.
Pierce, 35, pleaded guilty recently in Lake County Circuit Court to unlawful possession to 1.3 pounds of marijuana, a Class Three felony offense. The conviction carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, but is also probationable.
Prosecutor Amy Meister-Falbe and defense attorney Alfred Stavros recommended the negotiated guilty plea and sentence.
Judge Fred Foreman accepted both recommendations and Thursday sentenced Pierce to 24 months probation and fined him $300. Pierce must also perform 200 hours of public service work.
