Lowe's sells a tub for who-knows-what which is 2'x3'. It is usually near the cement mixing tubs which would also work, but are not as deep.
Sorry, I can't find them online.
The walls are near vertical and about 8" tall.
It is corrugated, but may need a 2x4 frame to keep from bulging too much.
A benefit is the ability to flood and drain larger pots.

I believe they are $30.

A single 12' 2x12, 2x10, or 2x8 would also work.
Cut to four equal lengths, make into a square frame, and attach a 4'x4' section of plywood that you have cut to fit the bottom.

Add pond liner, waterproof tarp, or heavy poly to taste...

No home built option beats a $75 store bought tray, though.

do they have a used building supply place where you live??? my buddy made an ebb and flow tray by finding an old plastic shower pan... its perfect... 3' x 3' with a lip all around, a tapered bottem with a hole in middle you can hook a pipe to for about 3 dollars

The mixing trays are cheap. They are also ready to go and very little work needs to be done. YOu just get a rubbermaid for the res and you are ready to go.

I like your ghetto ways Chosen.....

I run big Ebb and flow with hand made wooden beds lined with Vapor barrier plastic (2 layers) and a 40 gal tote box as the rez.

Cheap and cheerful.

walmart sells a round baby pool that did a good job for me on my 1st couple of harvests, i think its a little bigger than a circular 3x3 and is around $8. at the time i wasnt running it ebb/flow, but was doing a bubbler type setup, but i bet it would do a great job doing homade ebb/flow. only disadvantage is they are a seasonal item, only available during the summer months.

estimate yield on your first harvest probibly zip- but if you are lucky or smart you may get a little. once you learn the ropes i would say 6-12 oz every 2 months under a 400. that perpetual harvest shit is harder than it sounds. i would not do that until you become familiar with your system & genetics.

btw, i would be looking @ a 600 watt to do a 3x3 area

Hey, as for ghetto, I'm trying out using the free post office boxes with thick black plastic as a lining in order to make a small ebb and flow try to veg out cuttings. I use several coats of spray acrylic on the inside and outside in order to thicken up and sturdy the box. I'm going to then use spray acrylic with black plastic and cheap electrical fittings as a flood and drain setup.

interesting...how many plants can you fit in a post office box?
do you remove the top or just grow the plants out of the letter slot?

The one that I played with is roughly about 8.5" x 11". So, I can fit about 20 2" net pots inside of it. I flood and drain or bubble it. Then I just use it to veg them up to about 7".
