Hi i have sevaral too many cuttings in rock wool blocks and was told i could cold store them at around 3 degrees c and this will suspend all growth but will have no detrimental effect on the plants themselves???? can any1 shed any light on this subject please as i would hate to have to destroy healthy plants cheers .........

Crisper drawer is a more stable enviroment for a frequently opened fridge. Peace GS

Well i went to check out the fridge and every time i opened the door the light was on:yowza: ;)
So i snooped around a bit and found this linky
http://www.cannabis.com/growing/cloning-clones-in-stasis.html and wondered what you all thought about it? Water in the bag, etc?...comments, suggestions, appreciated.
Johny English, if your clones are already in rw blocks then i definitely would leave them in there for stasis as a pulled out rerooted clone has far less chances of survival. Of the fridge clones i've heard of, they were bare branches cut long with foilage left on. Thank you for bringing up the topic:D Hope you have great success with this.

clones in the fridge can last for 2-3 months easy just in ziplocks with no added water, probably a little longer if they are in jars (since ziplocks are not completely airtight some drying may occur over time)
when you go to clone them again just recut the bottoms, dip in hormone and back into cubes etc

Hi Guys
Thanks for the help and input, does anyone know wat temp is the best i have a spare fridge so can set it to 0to18c but i thought around 2 or 3 degrees C sounds good and is it possoble to leave them in the blocks and then when required bring them out warm gently over a day or two and then go to grow as they are or will this not work.....
Thank You
i got a couple questions, what about the light dark cycle ,does it screw them up,do they start to flower after there in the dark, and then light is on for a few minutes, whats this do to them, does it cause your plants to go hermie after you root them

all fridges are set to around 4 degrees celcius, the anomaly point of water, that is the temp you want so get a thermometer and tune your fridge up if you feel the need, but so long as you are not freezing stuff in the fridge it should be ok
at this temp the clones will go dormant, they won't do anything because they will be sleeping
you could put rooted clones in the fridge, but if they're not rooted it would be just as well to take them out of the cubes and put them in a ziplock, jar or tupperware

There is no need for light as the plants are not growing and in stasis. I assume your wondering if there is accumulation of pfr leading to flowering by leaving the lights off. I don't think so as the plant is in stasis and there is no respiration or growth to speak of. A cut stem is like an open circuit in the sense that not much can happen without "continuity." If your worried about the fridge light put them in a lightproof container.
peace:peace:
thx digger, thats exactly what i wanted to know,i must try it next time i take clones :yay:
