just an idea I had this morning
to feed plants (indoor or outdoor) with something like this -> http://spectrapure.com/St_prec_p0.htm

Absolutely the Quietest pump on the market
Fully automatic pump operation - Set it and forget it
Precision Dosing calibration feature eliminates guess work
Dependable and virtually maintenance free
Self-priming and Anti-siphoning
Compact size and cool operation
Uses less than 6 Watts of power when operating
Two year warranty
Precision dosing system can be powered directly from a 12VDC battery

The new aquarium dosing pump is made out of precision-machined aluminum fabricated to exacting aerospace tolerances. For example, such critical tolerances as the rollers are machined to +/-0.0005”. The outer surface is polished to a mirror finish. Internal surfaces are held to a 63 micro inch finish and hard anodized to provide a durable and low-friction raceway. The pump's planetary direct drive is at an 11:1 ratio, thus providing enough torque to generate over 40 pounds of pressure. This incredible lift enables the LiterMeter III™ to pump over 60 feet above itself at a flow rate of over 250 ml/min. It can also draw up from 25 feet below. The motor in the LiterMeter III™ is custom-designed by the premiere U.S. manufacturer of precision high reliability motors made to our specifications as a peristaltic drive motor. For example, many of the cars in NASCAR® use five or more motors of this design for cooling purposes; a major ink-jet printer manufacturer also uses them.

The LiterMeter III™ offers features found only on expensive laboratory pumps. Built-in calibration features eliminate the guesswork of uncalibrated competitive units. Unlike noisy industrial metering pumps sold to the aquarium trades, SpectraPure's LiterMeter III™was specially designed for critical aquarium dosing and is so quiet you can use it in your living room. Improved three-roller direct-motor drive eliminates noisy gears and improves flow accuracy and tubing life. It can be run dry without damage.

for hydro growers there are units out there like this that will do automatic pH adjustments

I am curious specifically about using this outdoors, instead of drip emitters, to dispense an accurate amount of water and/or nutrient

there are more specifics about the above pump here -> http://spectrapure.com/manuals/LiterMeter3f.pdf
says it can pump from a minimum of 1.7 oz (50ml) to a maximum of 26 gallons (99 liters ) a day, each pump doses equal doses 150 times a day

hey bro, I know this post is some months old, But I just acquired a dosing/metering pump in a trade... and got it because I thought maybe I could use it for something like this...it is a bit different than the one in your link, but I think it might be nice to play around with ...see if I can benefit from it maybe.. if not itll be interesting to play with at least. lol

cool stuff bro, Ill post pics of the one I got if you want, maybe you could tell me if I could actually put it to use for anything or not?? lol, Thanks mate. Amari
