thanks.
Umm, maybe I'm dumb, but how exactly is one supposed to use that chart?

The chart shows the optimum PH for a particular elements best uptake by our plants.
Nice to read and get an idea of why the strongly suggested hydro PH is in the 5.5 range. It also shows why its best to allow the PH to drift up to around 6 and then back down from a res starting Ph of around 5.3.
BTW... there are NO dumb questions except for the one you dont ask and your plants suffer or die from not asking.

ahh, OK, I think i get it.
Wouldn't 5.0 be better, as that way manganese is more readily available for uptake, without much, if any, decrease in the uptake of other nutes. At 5.5, the manganese uptake seems verry low.

manganese is a pretty minor element and with time you will see that a res running in the mid 5's will provide you much happier plants.

cool
so is it best to let it drift a bit, or keep it constantly at 5.5

IF... your res is setup properly... in the low 5's... and maintained for level ... the PH should be stable and not need adjusting. If its not, then I would be looking for something wrong in the res or in my mixing procedure....
Hydro is simple... WE complicate it... hr
