Starting a new strain from scratch, anybody here has any advice concerning Iranian genetics ?
Their heritage is genuine. I beleive the only manipulation before they reached me was one generation of cross betwen siblings in an indoor environment in Canada. Don't know how the selction process was conducted or if multiple males where used within that cross but it was performed by the knowledgeable gentleman who was given these by an iranian priest. He has used the common term Shahdaneh to desribe them. He said it was an important heritage from the iranian plateau.
Any piece of knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
i think the medical community is going to benefit greatly from such a resin producing strain...

Do you know how old they are?

Hi Guys,
No they are, like i said, from an iranian priest, to an iranian-american living man, to my friend, to me.
This perticular batch must be about two to three years old.
....?....

Does the morphology of the beans tell you anything interesting ?

the iranian indica from dr. greenthumbs is a leafy hash plant..lots of trichomes on the leaf..would be good for whacking against a screen to make dry sift
striping on the seed pics above to me says they could be vigorous, of the landraces and heirlooms I have seen they are often devoid of stripes
with these rare genes I would only germinate a couple seeds at a time, to see if they are easy to germ or if they require special attention

Sprout some, sprout some, sprout some. I look forward to following this one. Peace GS

Ok guys, happy to see some interest here, makes it that much more interesting
Question 1 : Should i sprout strictly the huge seeds or an homogenous sample of the lot with the smaller ones as well ?
Question 2 : I have only about 70 to a hundred seeds total and they are the last ones available in this part of the world. How many should i sprout to start with ?
OK, let me gather the following and we will start...
Fulvic acid
B1
Ro water
Rapid rooters
Fluo rack
tray
dome.

Pop a cross section first and note seed size/condition to each plant that emerges.Different males will have pollenated the females so you may get differing phenos emerge.
I'd pop 10 and see what happens.
Another thing....those seeds look very tough and thick, you may need to nick the shells with a scalpel to get some germination going.
Let her rip and lets see.....

I would germ a few to make sure they are viable...then if that is the case I would germ the most you feel comfortable growing at one time but no more than half of the seeds...then collect pollen from all the males, mix it, and apply to all the females and make as many seeds as possible...I would germ a variety of the seed sizes, to get the maximum diversity
you must be excited wow!

Great, yes c-ray i am excited, and for someone on anti-depressants and benzoes, it is a rare feeling, pretty cool i would say.
So, would it come to the same if i built anew room for that purpose and just let the males openly pollenate the females with a good air movement and plant moving ?
Or is it a poor method of work? I am not a breeder, maybe one day but i consider myself more of a professionnal grower than genetician...I will need your help with these if you guys want. I think you are in Canada also? Great, plenty Persian for you guys....

well you could keep the males and females all in the same room let them 'open pollinate' but the problem is that you will have uneven distribution of pollen, for instance the early males will end up contributing their genes to the lion's share of females since they will get their rocks off first...
it would not be the end of the world but I would say you probably want an even contribution from all males
you can grow them all in the same room and pull out males as they are about to drop pollen to another room and collect the pollen there...really you only need a small amount from each male
another method is to cut off the flowers (branches and colas) from males in the room as they are appearing until all the males are about to drop pollen...then take those male bouquets and put them in a glass of water with the flowers hanging over the side of the glass...just like people do with regular flowers from the florist the male branches will continue to flower and will drop pollen, just be sure to put a piece of wax paper, a sheet of glass or something smooth to collect the pollen on as it drops...
see if you collect pollen separately and hand pollinate you can leave a few buds on each plant to smoke relatively seed free
good luck!

Very instructive c-ray.
i can see how these details would be of importance. I will collect the pollen and redistribute it manually then. Very exciting indeed.
I am going to start by soaking the seeds up tonight, i have gathered everything necessary.
later.

Shadaneh:
aroma upon breakup: metallic wildflower and relish.
vaped:6.5 smooth taste
High kicks in quick and is uplifting in nature with a comfortable body feeling. Very positive...i am pleasantly surprised because most people have been dissing me over this strain saying that shadaneh could only refer to hemp in genereal according to their ¨illuminated¨ research...LOL.
ps:Note that these buds where leftover for hash from a friend's bad crop....quality is much greater in reality...

interesting... how was the growth structure? was it symetrical south afghani or more bush.... was it much variation?
show us some more!

here's the words for hashish and hemp according to a Farsi dictionary (http://www.farsidic.com/E2F/) (persian language)
if you notice the word for hashish is contained in the word hemp...it might even say "the shit that is left over after we make hashish"

Ha ha..
Thanks c-ray.
Shadaneh is supposed to mean KING OF SEEDS, so it makes me wonder....
You will like this herb c-ray, it is very uplifting and positive...
Albi,
One would normally be inclined to think the same when thinking about this plant's origins, however, it has a very open canopy slender profile with long thin leaf blades...Praised more for the quality of it's resin than it's productive structure. Maybe a genetics and morphology expert could enlighten us on this topic.
This was from one phenotype grown from a friend who had access to the seeds with me some years ago. I have a small batch of seeds ready to be tested again, maybe we will see about variation then, but from what i heard,, there was no significant differences in it's description.

yes, AM, some good herb indeed. I have not grown it myself yet, simply carried the seeds. We hope to include it in our medical arsenal.
