PORT BLAIR: For the first time in the Union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands huge quantity of ganja worth about Rs two lakh was seized from person who arrived from Chennai by ship, a senior police official said on Saturday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (CID) Daya Shanker Singh said acting on a tip-off a police team led by Inspector R Vedam started searching and frisking passengers of M V Nancowary which arrived at Haddowharf from Chennai on Friday.
While frisking the passengers the team found a passenger E Manohar carrying a fruit cardboard box. On opening the box they found 11kg of ganga worth about Rs two lakh, the DSP said. Police seized the ganja and arrested Manohar, the DSP added.
