something I found on the web, kinda interesting, take it for what it's worth
Here is Anastasia's advice on how to grow a plant from a seed.
Before planting, put the seed or seeds into your mouth under your tongue for no less then nine minutes. Next, put the seeds between your palm for 30 seconds. While doing this you need to stay barefooted on the ground where you are going to plant the seeds. Then open the palms, take the seed close to your mouth and breathe on it the air from your lungs. Warm the seed with your breath and it will learn what's inside you. Keep the palm open for another 30 seconds for the seed to see the heaven's bodies and it will determine when to sprout.
After that you may put the seed into the soil, but do not water it for three days, so that your saliva remains on the seed. Do the planting on the favorable day for the particular plant, according to a moon calendar.
When the sprout comes above the ground, don't remove all the weeds around it. Leave in the vicinity of the seedling at least one of each kind of plants. Some will protect the sprout from diseases, while others will provide it with additional information. Later you will need to communicate with the plant and to touch it at least once at a full moon.
Anastasia claims that the produce grown in such a way could heal any disease, add extra years to one's life, help get rid of unhealthy habits like smoking, drinking, and drug use, and can bring peace. The best effect, she says, is achieved when the produce is consumed within three days of harvesting -- and the sooner the better.

Benefits of Subtle-Energy Gardening
A SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP is a relationship in which two things mutually benefit each other. A symbiotic feature adds value of an equal amount for the cost or effort involved. For example, 1 + 1 = 2 is a symbiotic system. We obtain a 1 unit increase in output value for each unit of effort or cost applied.
A SYNERGISTIC FEATURE is a feature which adds an output value greater then the cost or effort involved. For example, 1 + 1 = 2X (where X is greater than 1) is a synergistic system. We obtain more than 1 unit increase in output value for each unit of effort or cost applied.
This brings up the questions -- "What are symbiotic and synergistic features of a gardening process, and how effective are they?" Some symbiotic or synergistic gardening systems have been identified and quantified in experiments conducted at the Foundation for the Betterment of Mankind. The subtle-energy features listed in the opening paragraphs of Chapter 5 summarizes and quantifies some of the subtle-energies which result in symbiotic and or synergistic increases in plant performance. It is interesting to note that combining symbiotic and/or synergistic features and techniques often results in even further synergy, and sometimes significantly so. It is apparent therefore that using and combining such approaches in a garden is desirable, at least up to a point of diminishing returns. This point can be determined by applying The Theorem of Synergy.
Combinations of synergistic features and techniques are possible, but the benefits are not as cost effective if a plant's normal growth potential has been reached. A corn seed can support 13 roots and an overall sprout length of between 18.5 to 20 inches in six days if synergistic combinations are applied. Adding more combinations past that point will not be as cost effective. This forms the basis for the Theorem of Synergy.
THEOREM OF SYNERGY
WITHIN A GIVEN ENVIRONMENT, COMBINING SYNERGISTIC FEATURES AND TECHNIQUES ON PLANTS WILL RESULT IN FURTHER SYNERGY UNTIL THE GROWTH LIMITS OF THE PLANTS ARE APPROACHED.
Thereafter, unless the environment is changed, further combinations of synergy will not be cost effective. This means that gardeners should choose the features and techniques that they wish to use and apply some or all until they feel that further plant response is not worth the cost or effort involved. If they still wish to increase plant performance past this point, they must consider either changing the environment, or the manner in which the plant responds to the environment. Thereafter, additional combinations can be cost effective.
Changing The Way Plants Respond To The Environment
Plants can only absorb a certain amount of nutrients through the root structure. Using synergistic designs and techniques mentioned previously, we can increase the development of the root structure significantly during the time that a plant normally uses its energy to develop roots, but past that point, the root can only function at its maximum efficiency. If too much fertilizer is applied to encourage further growth, it overloads or burns the roots. Further development, if the plant depends totally upon the roots for nourishment, is limited no matter how many synergistic combinations are applied.
The reason Dan Carlson developed Sonic Bloom music was to stimulate leaf stomata in the hopes that foliar feeding could be used to supplement root absorption of plant nutrients. Sand for instance, can't normally support large crops, as fertilizer is lost rapidly through its loose structure. Supplementing solid and liquid fertilizer applications with foliar spray offers an excellent alternative means for providing nourishment to plants.
Mr. Carlson used Sonic Bloom music to vibrate leaf stomata while plants were sprayed with a seaweed based foliar spray. Seaweed-based spray has over 50 trace elements, plant nutrients, hormones, vitamins, growth regulators and chelators which are absorbed by the leaf stomata. His plants did astonishingly well. One plant, that normally grows 18 inches, grew 1/10th of a mile when sprayed with seaweed fertilizer to Sonic Bloom melodies. One wonders if Sonic Bloom and foliar seaweed spray can do that with an 18-inch plant, what will Schubert's 8th+ and seaweed based foliar spray do for vining crops like indeterminate squash, which normally grow 18 feet or longer?
The subtle- energies of sound and music, if used as a catalyst to increase nutrient uptake, offer an excellent technique for use in a Volks Garten. Therefore, Schubert's 8th+ or similar music should be considered as a low cost catalyst for the absorption of nutrients, trace elements, hormones, growth regulators, and chelators by plants sprayed with seaweed foliar spray. (For a source of cassettes of Schubert's 8th Unfinished Symphony, 4080 CPS sound and 1000-10,000 CPS chirp frequencies, and seaweed based foliar spray, see the Hands of Light Seed Company address in Appendix 3 -- Sources.)
Changing The Environment
Plants require certain levels of nourishment, light, heat, air, water crystal and magnetic energy to perform their normal functions. The Foundation for the Betterment of Mankind has investigated a few subtle- energy techniques for synergistically improving plant performance. We have focused light, pyramid and cosmic energy on plants by the shapes of pyramids and soil mounds and reflected sunlight off of a flat-white colored surface. We energized water, dew and plants with light, magnets, crystals and prayers. We increased nutrient absorption by foliar feeding through the leaf stomata. We increased stomata vibration and nutrient uptake by sound and music. We also changed the environment by adding magnets and crystals to increase the magnetic and crystal energy fields surrounding the plants. This left AIR as the only remaining possibility for increasing plant performance further.
Plants breathe carbon dioxide during the day. Carbon dioxide assists the respiratory system of plants and is particularly helpful to plants on hot days. Air normally contains trace gases, -- large amounts of oxygen and nitrogen, but only .04 percent carbon dioxide. Plants prefer air comprised of .15 percent carbon dioxide.
Recent studies have shown that when 100 percent carbon dioxide gas was blown onto cotton plants, cotton production increased by over 50 percent. Carbon dioxide levels are a limiting factor in the growth of most plants Therefore, if further growth is desired, additional quantities of carbon dioxide should be provided to plants during daylight hours. Placing an economical carbon dioxide generator in garden areas as the weather turns warmer will increase plant performance levels. This, in turn, will increase the number of synergistic features, techniques, and strategies which can be applied and still achieve additional cost effective synergistic responses.
Below are some photographs of the results of Don Elwood's experimentation.
http://www.donelwood.com/gardening/garden/sunflower72.jpg
This sunflower, which appears on the front cover of his book Volks Garten, was sent Reiki 3 prayers, enhanced by Manna. It mutated to yield 72 flowers instead of one.
Do note the effect of prayers on plants (including the weeds shown in the background!) Unfortunately in early experiments he had sent prayers to his garden -- NEVER DO THAT! You will never ever be able to get rid of the weeds that will grow to fantastic heights all over your garden. God must really love weeds and if you pray for them they' ll grow like crazy!
Always pray for "just the plant spirits" of the plants you plant (and their descendent's for ever more). The Hopi Indians currently grow corn in the middle of the desert that produce 12 ears of corn without fertilizer, water or pesticides. They claim it is because of the prayers sent to corn spirits (i. e., kachinas) in past times by their medicine men and the plant spirits still remember the prayers.
For example, make prayers like this: Accumulate manna and send it up to your High Self and "ask that it be blessed and rain down through you to the plant spirits you have planted and their descendent's for ever more so that they will live happy, healthy productive lives, and be protected from pests, predictors, parasites, strong winds and heavy rains-for the best interests of all concerned."
http://www.donelwood.com/gardening/garden/corn-harvest.jpg
The corn kernels shown on the left of the photo came from corn plants in a 10 foot row that did not receive any prayers during the season. The kernels on the right came from (an equal number of corn plants in a 10 foot row) that were sent Reiki 3 prayers, enhanced with manna at least one time each day. (i.e., the same prayer that was given for the sunflower shown above).
On dry days, all plants were watered as Shuberts 8th+ symphony was being played for them to vibrate their leaf stomata.
The unprayed-for row produced 13 cobs and the prayed for corn averaged 23.25 cobs per row. (Note: According to Van Norstrand in the Vegetable Growing Handbook this variety of corn produced 12 ears in a 10 feet of rows in his test. Thus the prayed for corn produced 1.8 times more cobs than the unprayed for row and 1.94 times that of the corn tested in the Vegetable Growing Handbook.
http://www.donelwood.com/gardening/garden/beans1.jpg
The photo to the left shows a pyramid constructed of 10 foot PVS plastic tubes with a prayer programmed crystal attached to its apex with its legs placed in three circle antenna garden configurations.
Pole bean vine growth on this trellis (shown below) is far superior to growth of beans on a vertical trellis. When beans grown on a vertical trellis are six-feet high, plants on a pyramid without such a crystal are 10 feet high, and on a pyramid with a prayer programmed crystal attached at its apex are 12 feet high. These extremely productive plants grew so prolifically that the bean weight nearly broke the PVC tubes used for its support. The plants grew so high that a ladder was necessary to harvest the higher beans. For these reasons stronger designs were created that permit even more rapid growth and production rates at harvest heights not requiring the use of a ladder.
http://www.donelwood.com/gardening/garden/corn5.jpg
This corn was grown in a "55 inch circle antenna configuration" and blessed by Reiki 3 prayers enhanced with manna.
The Hopi Indians claim that corn kachinas (i.e.,corn spirits) are sacred and mutate corn plants in res ponce to a gardeners prayers. This corn plant mutated to 5 stalks rather than the usual one, and produced 5 times the normal yield for this variety of corn.

Gardening With Subtle Energies
By Don Elwood
In 1990 I had no idea that I would ever be the author of seven books, going on eight, about gardening with subtle energies. I am an aerospace engineer by profession, and had intended to eventually retire in the Carribean Islands. After I ran into a walk-in, who advised me to do otherwise, I moved instead to a small farm in rural Riner Virginia, and began to learn how to garden with subtle energies. I have since learned to obtain abundant crops with a minimum amount of physical work, which pleases my lazy Taurus nature and efficient Industrial engineer's conscience to no end.
I have discovered how to do this by combining the synergistic effects of prayers, crystals, pyramids, cones, sound, music, cosmic energies, magnetic energy, light, colors, organic fertilizers and rare trace elements which in themselves are quite effective in inproving plant performance. I found that:
Sprout growth can be increased by up to:
170 times with crystals which have been programmed by Reiki prayers,
33.5 times with subtle energy antennas
26 times with magnets
22.5 times with water which crystals have vivified
20 times by reflecting cosmic energy
11.4 times by sound and music
4 times by using water which has been constantly radiated with
Reiki blessed "Yantras" (i. e. Reiki prayer blessed spiritual symbols)
2.24 times by reflected white light
First year crop performance can be increased by up to:
38 times the weight of squash by sending Reiki 2 prayers with mana
7.22 times more peas if grown in a cosmic energy reflecting mound garden.
4 times the number of cob bearing corn stalks per plant by sending them Reiki 3 prayers with mana.
Second year crop performance can be increased by up to:
10 times more beans by using seeds from plants that had been blessed 71 days the previous season with Reiki 2 prayers and mana.
These are very satisfying results in themselves, but I soon found that the effect of each technique is synergistic when they are combined. In a synergistic system, elements work together in a manner which results in greater benefits then those provided by the sum of it's parts. For example, 1+1= 2X is a synergistic system. Therefore, I found that if I combine the application of prayers with music, sound, light, crystals, magnets and cosmic energy the final crop results are far greater then the effect gained by adding each subtle energy by itself. This works well up to a point, then the theorem of synergy takes over.
Theorem of Synergy
Within a given environment, combining synergistic features and techniques on plants will result in further synergy until the growth limits of the plants are approached.
Thereafter, unless the environment is changed, further combinations of synergy will not be cost effective. This means that one should choose features and techniques that they wish to use and apply some, or all, of them until it is felt that further plant response is not worth the cost or effort involved."
This is the first in a series of articles to be presented on the use of subtle energies on plants. The following explains the motivation I received from a Walk-in who got me started. The following are excerpts from a chapter of my first book, Quest for The Light.
"Amber was a psychic healer from the Caribbean who had come to present lectures in the U.S. warning people that the Caribbean will soon experience a gigantic earthquake. She predicted that Florida will soon be cut off from the mainland and water will inundate our low lands. She set up a series of lectures at the Spiral Circle Bookstore where I often shopped for books. At first I attended her lecture just out of curiosity. Psychics have prophesied for centuries that earth movements such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions were going to take place toward the end of this century. Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce, various American Indians, as well as Bible prophets have predicted that land movements would be taking place; but I had never met any of them. Here was a live psychic making a special trip to warn people about an impending earth movement, that interested me".
I had been thinking of retiring in the Caribbean and attended Amber's lectures to see what she had to say about earth movements in the area. She shocked me when she opened the lecture by saying , "Hi, I'm Amber, and I am a "walk-in!!!"
A walk-in is an entity that "walks in" to a living body. I had only a few weeks earlier read Ruth Montgomery's book, Threshold To Tomorrow, a book about walk-ins. It claims that not only Jesus will come to the earth to help make our transition to the Age of Aquarius, but He will have several helpers to assist during the transition. Some of the helpers have come to the earth plane before Him and are amongst us now, awaiting His arrival. Others who are to help Him, did not wish to live a full life on earth but were willing to help if they could take over a seriously ill body such as a cancer patient or auto accident victim who no longer wished to live. These are what Ruth Montgomery claims are people called walk-ins. Her book says that walk-ins have been entering the earth plane in increasing numbers, curing themselves and preparing to help Jesus during the times of trials and tribulations."
Amber explained that she discovered the earth movements were about to take place while teaching some students how to have out of body experiences. One of her students came back from an out of body trip and said that the islands were gone. Amber said she went with her student on an out of body trip and saw the same thing. She then had her other students, one at a time, take a similar trip, but did not tell them what to expect. They all agreed, that at some time in the very near future, there is going to be a massive plate movement in the Caribbean area extending all the way to Africa.
They then took various out of body trips over the U.S. to see what will take place here. They drew a map of the U.S. as it would look in about 60 years. Her map showed Florida as nothing but a few islands. The whole Midwest was under water up to the Great Lakes. East and west coasts were changed. She predicted many small and four big earth movements would occur in the next 60 years. She said that spiritual leaders from the far east reported similar predictions to the United Nations and had gone to the islands to warn the governments there. The religious group from the far east said that they would eventually move to Orlando, Florida, which would be an island after the danger was past.
In the series of lectures that followed, attendees discussed what could and should be done to prepare for such an event. Being an aerospace engineer, I was used to analyzing potential threats and synthesizing counter measures to minimize them. It takes very little analysis to know that there's very little you can do when all power, potable water, roadways, and food are gone. Even the thought of how to rebuild the infrastructure if the governments could fund such a massive task would be next to impossible to accomplish in an entire generation. Somebody brought up the problem of how to save documents in our library systems. Without books, the knowledge of how to rebuild the system might be lost in a generation.
It was during Ambers lectures that I learned what Reiki is. Reiki is the practice of healing by the laying of the hands. It is similar to what Jesus did when he healed the sick. One of the attendees at Amber's workshop had been ordained as a first degree Reiki practitioner. This means that she could practice spiritual healing by the laying of the hands, but she could not yet do healing at a distance. That takes Reiki 2nd degree training. Jesus said that the things He could do, we would eventually be able to do. I had a serious illness several years back and decided to have the Reiki practitioner check me out. I got a clean bill of health and learned that I, too, could become a Reiki practitioner if I ever ran into a Reiki master willing to ordain me.
Shortly after that I read the books, The Secret Life Of Plants and Secrets Of The Soil. The former tells of a man who attached a lie detector to a plant's leaves and recorded the vibrations during various experiments. Several such experiments revealed that plants experience life similar to animals and feel pain and emotions much as man does. They can communicate with each other and possess memory. That fascinated me.
The book Secrets Of The Soil said the American Indians had a way of instilling a spiritual will to grow and produce well in plants which the seeds remembered in future generations. That not only fascinated me; I wanted to learn how they did that. That would certainly be a useful thing to know if one had to return to the soil without power tools. In good times or bad it would be useful to know. With food shortages and starvation like that of Ethiopia, Africa and now Russia, any improvement in the food cycle should be encouraged.
The book spoke of a Hopi Indian named Titus, who sang and prayed to his corn plants. His waist high corn stalks grew a dozen or more ears each in the middle of a desert. The Hopi Indians claim it's the "Navoti" spirit that keeps the plants alive and producing in such an arid environment. Prayers are offered at planting time and Titus sings ancient songs to his plants at the heat of noon to give them courage. The Hopi say that other farmers can not pray or sing to their seeds and achieve the same results for Navoti is no longer alive in other man's seeds. It seems that how Navoti was originally invoked in the plants and seeds has been forgotten, and only the Hopi seed descendents of the ancient corn still remember the zestful spirit to live and produce in such severe conditions.
These books also discussed a spiritual healer in Russia who was employed to psychically increase the yields of Russian crops. She increased one crop yield over 1200% . I decided to check out how to become a Reiki practitioner, so that I could experiment on prayers for plants myself. Even if it didn't work out with plants, the healing ability might come in handy sometime. My wife has migraine headaches, and maybe I would need some medical help down the road. If it was good enough for Jesus and Buddha, I felt that it ought to be good enough for me.
I became a Reiki practitioner and started to experiment with "the power of prayer for plants"

Gardening With Subtle Energies
By Don Elwood
After meeting Amber the "walk-in", and participating in the brain storming sessions with her group on how to survive after the plate movements that she predicts, I gave some serious thought to priorities. First I researched various prophesies which also predict the events of the upcoming period. Nostradamus, the Bible, Native American, Edgar Casey, and modern day prophets like Gordon Michael Scallian all concur --it's time to prepare for difficult times on Mother Earth.
As an aerospace engineer, I helped send man safely to the moon and back, and I felt that surely I could learn to live safely on spaceship earth even in difficult times! First, one must analyze the various threats that may be involved and then develop counter measures. What threats? Books like the Bible, Mass Dreams of the Future, by Chet Snow and Awakening to Zero Point by Greg Braden, present just about all of the threat scenarios one needs to prepare for; namely: volcano eruptions which fill the sky with volcanic dust, great heat from the sun, plate movements, and wars around the globe.
Plate movements may devastate our electrical generating stations and transportation systems. This in turn could leave us without electricity to pump water or to heat our homes. Without transportation, our food supply would be cut off, leaving us without even fertilizer or seeds. It can be assumed therefore, that in the near future we may all be confronted with basic issues like clean air, water, food, shelter and clothing in approximately that order.
The Bible gives the most logical solution; if one really fears that we are in the end times -- run, don't walk, to the mountains! Buy an old farm with a wood burning fireplace, a cistern to store rain water from the roof, a root cellar to store food and a garden with good organic soil. This will eliminate perhaps 80% of the threats one will encounter as a result of the earth movements. Then comes how to survive day to day.
This brings up the question of how will the survivors of our modern cities eat? If power and transportation are totally devastated, no one will be trucking in food from California or the western plains. Our younger generations have all but forgotten how to grow a garden. Even those who still know how to grow their own food will be unable do so, for they have no land, fertilizer or seeds. These were the issues that Amber, the walk-in, focused upon. Her groups brainstormed about how to prepare for such contingencies.
We, researched various survival techniques which might be appropriate. If we survive, we must first obtain clean air, water and then food. Assuming air and water are found we can only last perhaps 40 days or so on little or no food; thereafter, food will very rapidly become the most important commodity for those who survive the cleansing process.
Many will likely try their hand at hunting or fishing, if they have the proper equipment and supplies on hand. Others will scrounge the road sides and woods for edible weeds, if they know which weeds are edible. Many, if not most of the survivors will then try to grow a garden, if they have land, fertilizer and seeds on hand. There isn't much one can do to help others to prepare for the hunting, fishing and scrounging process except to point out what vitamins and minerals are essential for good health and what edible weeds contain such vitamins and minerals.
(Reference: Quest For the Light for such survival information).
These were only immediate quick fixes, however. The most important issues for long term survival are:
knowledge of how to grow your own food,
suitable land for growing a garden,
garden tools,
fertilizers,
open pollinated seeds, and
knowledge of how to preserve, but especially, to dry foods.
After much discussion, it was concluded that the knowledge of how to garden, obtain natural fertilizers and to dry foods were secondary only to having access to open pollinated seeds of the type that could sustain good health. Since these brain storming sessions took place, I have done considerable research into these areas and have documented the results in my various books.
Of primary importance is having good quality open pollinated seeds of the type that are conducive for family use throughout the year. Why open pollinated seeds? Hybrid seeds can not be taken from the current year's plants and used next year; that is , they will not produce as good quality fruit the second season as they do the first season. Seed companies have been attempting to wean us off of open pollinated seeds for years now in the hope that we will buy their hybrid seeds every year. This may be good for the seed companies, but it will leave us stranded in the case of an emergency of the magnitude predicted by Amber.
Open pollinated seeds are a must! Then comes the issue of which varieties of seeds will grow the vegetables necessary to support a balanced diet for the family? Which vegetables provide the essential vitamins and minerals necessary for our health? Next comes the issues like which of the more nutritious vegetables are easiest to grow (without power tools), pick and store for the winter months?
Formerly, all bean plants were long vining varieties, for native Americans needed vegetables that could be picked all thoughout the season to feed their families. It has only been since the white man developed power tools that could pick a crop that matures all at once, plow them under and replant a late crop that bush beans were developed. Currently we have the means to preserve huge quantities of produce within a short period of time. Under our current circumstances a crop which matures all at once is desirable. Unfortunately, without power tools, it is the long vining indeterminate plants (i. e., plants which continue to grow vines and produce after they first start to blossom) are essential for supporting family needs throughout the seasons. There are many benefits for growing such varieties.
Without power tools, tilling, weeding and harvesting become quite a problem. If long vining plants can be trellised, a very small area will produce several times more vegetables for the same energy expended to till and weed around the plants.
Trellising will greatly facilitate harvesting efforts.
Trellised crops can normally produce up to seven times more produce than bush crops per square foot (and up to ten times that amount if subtle energies such as prayers are applied.)
Then comes the problem of how to balance our diet properly. How, for instance, do we obtain the essential amino acid, lysine? Meso Americans obtained lysine from the amaranth plant and squash seeds prior to the white mans intervention. The amaranth plant is totally edible, it produces more calcium than an equal amount of milk, is high in magnesium and vitamins A, and C, but most importantly it is one of the very few grains that is high in lysine.
Lysine is synergistic in the absorption of other amino acids in our food supply. Man can not live on corn and beans alone but man can live on corn, beans and amaranth for the lysine in amaranth is synergistic and allows us to digest more of the amino acids of the other grains we consume. Amaranth is a weed under normal circumstances, but there are cultivated varieties such as "grain", "popping" and "greens" which have been developed for their specific properties.
Next to be considered is the selection of seeds for vegetables which are easily preserved through the winter months. Glass canning jars can easily be shattered in even minor earthquakes; what would happen if a plate movement or a pole shift occurred with Richter scale readings in excess of 13? Root cellering, smoking and drying techniques are likely to be the safest form of food preservation under such conditions. Which varieties of fruits and vegetables should be grown for winter use, and which contain the vitamins and minerals necessary to prevent food deficiency type illnesses? How does one obtain sufficient amounts of vitamin C to prevent scurvy, for instance?
These are the type of considerations which must be given priority before one even contemplates what to grow in a garden. Then comes the problem of fertilizer. If land transportation is destroyed what does one use for fertilizer? Land and seeds by themselves are almost useless without nutrients essential for sustaining proper growth.
Maintaining a compost pile and applying mulch will help but what about trace minerals and lime? The Indians did pretty well by applying fish guts to their corn. Corn normally requires high quantities of nitrates, potassium and phosphates for full development. Fish guts provided them with an excellent fertilizer. Fish eat aquatic weeds which absorb up to 90,000 times the trace elements that are in the water surrounding them. Anyone can gather aquatic weeds and place fish guts in the compost heap. (Caution: aquatic weeds contain over 50 trace elements, growth hormones, cleators and vitamins which affect plant growth, therefore too much, is as bad as too little. Aquatic plants should be applied only moderately, or between 250-500 pounds per acre for maximum production.)
After our brain storming sessions resolved the issues of how to fertilize the garden, what seeds should be obtained for emergencies and how to preserve our crops, we started the more challenging sessions.
Like, how to grow the most nutritious food for the least sweat.

Gardening With Subtle Energies
By Don Elwood
After a few sessions of Amber's survival classes we concluded that if we prepare for surviving off of the land we should:
Procure fertile land on which to survive, preferably, in a mountainous area
Determine which plant varieties are essential for survival
Obtain sufficient quantities of the open pollinated seeds of each essential plant variety
Learn how to make fertilizer from the surrounding environment
Learn to preserve vegetables and fruits, preferably by drying, smoking or root cellering
Obtain hand tools for maintaining a garden, and
Learn to grow a garden
I have no intention of gardening the way that my grandfather did during the depression. I grew up in a family that survived the depression by scrounging off the land. That was too much physical work! When WWII broke out the government encouraged everyone to grow what they called "Victory" gardens, and as far as my mother was concerned that meant both my brother and I had to grow a garden of our own. I resolved at the time that I would never grow a garden like that ever again. There just had to be an easier way.
I am a lazy Taurus and resolved to do no more farming like that. I worked my way through college and became an Industrial Engineer so I wouldn't have to. In the process, I learned how inefficient current gardening practices really are. Modern gardeners attempt to garden in a similar manner as the large mechanized farms, but without the necessary machines to do the work!
Gardening without power should be done differently. Many plants like greens, bush peas and bush beans should be grown in alternating patches which choke out weeds instead of being grown in rows. Rows are designed to permit tractor wheels to enter the garden for processing and harvesting the crops. Bush beans and bush peas should be grown in patches and after the second picking access isles in between the patches can be planted with a later crop because the bean and pea patches can be walked over to do the final picking.
But this brings up the question of why should we should plant bush beans or peas at all? Under normal conditions, good quality indeterminate Vining beans and peas will produce up to seven times more produce if supported on a trellis. Seven times the crop for preparing the same amount of ground should be a God send for gardeners without power tools. Not only that, but harvesting them from a vertical trellis is far easier.
Perhaps planting a few patches of early variety peas and beans along with some early greens would provide spring vegetables for the family but it would be far more advantageous thereafter to rely on long vining plants. No one, to my knowledge, has ever done a time and motion study of gardening without power tools. If they had, we wouldn't be gardening as most of us currently do.
Native Americans knew how to garden efficiently. In fact, the Hopi Indians still grow corn in the middle of the desert without commercial fertilizer or pesticides. They send prayers and sing to it during the midday heat to give it courage. Their corn yields twelve cobs per plant! That's fantastic compared to our American agricultural system which brags about their hybrid corn which yields only two cobs per plant and then, only after applying nitrates, phosphates, and potassium fertilizers and various pesticides.
The Hopi Indians say their corn performs so well because of the Navoti spirit. Navoti corn was originally blessed by a by an ancient medicine man and the corn descendants still remember it. The Indians say that the white mans corn has forgotten the blessing and performs like a slave. The Indian way is the way corn should be raised to my thinking. If I could learn to pray in a manner which encourages such responses not only in one year, but in following years, I felt that this would be the very best thing that I could possibly do to prepare for surviving off the land. This got me started on my quest for learning the "secret the Navoti spirit".
The Secret of the "Navoti" Spirit
I had heard about the potent effects of Reiki prayer energy or "ki" from one of the participants of Amber's workshops and wondered if Reiki prayers were the means by which the ancient Hopi medicine men had blessed the Navoti corn. I became a Reiki 1 practitioner in order to find out. However, I quickly learned the limitations of using Reiki 1 techniques. Reiki 1 practitioners can only send ki by placing the hands directly over the areas to be blessed; this is cumbersome. I realized this, but if my plants really do grow better by sending them Reiki energy I knew that I could become a Reiki 2 practitioner later on.
I quickly found that plants respond very well to Reiki 1 prayers; the first season I obtained three times the amount of beans from the plants which received Reiki blessings. I also soon found that it was impractical to kneel over each plant for five minutes a day in order to bless them. It was very uncomfortable, especially when it rained.
It didn't take long to realize that becoming a Reiki 2 practitioner was a very good idea. As a Reiki 2 practitioner I could send Reiki prayer energy to my plants while laying in my bed. Not only that, but I could send the prayer energy to all of my plants at once and accomplish the total blessing process in only five minutes. I could bless all of the plants in the garden in the same time as I currently was spending to bless each plant. For some reason, I felt that perhaps something that was so convenient just couldn't be as beneficial as the "hands on" technique. So, I decided to test the effectiveness of sending Reiki 2 prayers "at a distance". If such a simple technique could really encourage plants to grow better I would use it.
At the time I lived in a Florida condo and had very little land on which to do such tests. I asked a friend if he would let me use his back yard for some late season tests. He said it would be ok and I arranged to become a Reiki 2 practitioner.
A Reiki 2 practitioner is taught not only to send prayers at a distance but also to use three "mantras" and three "yantras". A mantra is a sound which vibrates spiritual frequencies and a "yantra" is a symbol which radiates spiritual frequencies. One Reiki mantra and it's symbol deals with "memory". In healing humans, the memory symbol is used to help a patient to recall memories which they have been harboring which are causing them to be at dis-ease. It is felt that once distressful memories surface the conscious mind can be taught to deal with them and release the distressed areas. I wondered at the time, if this "memory yantra" could possibly be the secret of the ancient Hopi Novati blessing. Could this memory yantra be used to invoke "memory" of prayers sent this year to the descendants of plants in future years? My Reiki Master confirmed that Reiki prayers do indeed transcend both "time and space", so I decided to send Reiki 2 prayers utilizing the yantras to some plants.
I dug eight holes next to my friends fence and planted some pole beans in each hole. I did not bless the seeds in one hole, I sent various Reiki prayers and yantras to the seven sets of pole beans in the remaining holes. Each day thereafter, I sent different types of Reiki 2 prayers from a distance to these seven the bean sets. If Reiki 2 prayers sent from a distance are a effective then it could be proven by this test. I did not again visit the test site until that fall.
The unprayed for plant grew about half way up the fence, had no blossoms and no beans. All but one set of plants receiving Reiki prayers grew higher than the unprayed for plant; they had blossoms and some beans. I thought it interesting at the time but I didn't pick any because I was in the process of moving to Virginia and had other things I had to do.
The next fall I returned to Orlando to sell my condo and ran into my friend. He told me to drop by to see the beans. I asked "What beans? I didn't plant any beans this year"? He said that some of the beans that I left on last years vines had fallen to the ground and had resprouted. In fact, the grass had grown over the holes I had dug and some of the beans had resprouted not only once, but three times already!. This I had to see!
I was astonished at what I found. Some of the beans which I had sent Reiki 2 enhanced by "mana" and memory yantras to had resprouted. They were growing not only to the top of the fence but down the fence in both directions and all of the vines were loaded with beans. I counted the beans on one of the plants and discovered it had produced over ten times the number of beans that the plants had grown the first year. This astounded me; the beans receiving Reiki 2 prayers, enhanced with mana, and yantras had resprouted in Florida sand (which had been grown over grown with grass), received no fertilizer or water and yet produced ten times the number of beans they grew the first year. Had I rediscovered the Hopi secret of the "Navoti Spirit"?
I reviewed my diary to discover which of the various prayer techniques had resulted in the more prolific plants. Those which responded the best had received both Reiki memory yantras and were enhanced with mana. Unfortunately I had combined these prayer techniques on these plants and realized that in the future I would have to be more careful. I will have to do my testing one step at a time if I am to determine the specific benefits that each prayer technique yields in quantifiable terms. Thus began a five year series of experiments on the power of prayers and other subtle energies on plants..
How much does enhancing Reiki prayers with mana increase crop performance?

Gardening With Subtle Energies
By Don Elwood
How much does enhancing Reiki prayers with mana increase crop performance?
After settling into my new home in Virginia I decided to pursue my quest for the secret of the Navoti Spirit. During winter months I began a series of experiments on the effects of applying subtle energies on growing corn sprouts. It takes only six days to determine what effects that subtle energies like prayer have on germination and early sprout growth. It would take several years to quantify the effects if this had to be done in the garden itself. I found that I could quickly identify the most effective subtle energy techniques on sprouts and later I could use the more effective techniques in the garden area to quantify their effects on crop yields.
In the 1991 season I had learned that Reiki 2 prayers and memory yantras sent over a distance were effective in improving plant performance. Not only was this effective on plants during the first season, but also the descendants of the plants in following seasons. The descendants produced up to ten times more produce the second season. Unfortunately in those experiments I had combined the sending of "mana" with the Reiki yantras in the prayers I had sent. I now needed to determine the effects of just enhancing the prayer process with "mana". If enhancing prayers with mana is really worth while then it can be proven; if it is truly effective, then it should be incorporated into future subtle energy gardening practices.
According to the Christian Bible, Moses fed his people with "manna" in the desert. According to Max Freedom Long, in his various books on the Polynesian Kahuna Priests, the Kahunas also know how to use mana and do so routinely as part of their prayers. According to Jesus we cannot get into heaven unless we do so as a child. The Kahunas are in agreement They say that humans are comprised of three spirits: a middle self (or conscious self) called lono, a low self (or subconscious "childlike" self) called ku and a high self (the our Father Above of Jesus) called Kane. Only ku, the subconscious childlike self, can communicate with the high self and it is therefore ku that must communicate our prayers to Kane (our Father Above).
The following are excerpts which describe their prayer process described in my book Spiritual Gardening At Its Best:
"The Kahuna priests functioned as stewards for Mother earth and would reflect Gods prayer energies to Mother Earth brother sky and their plant and animal friends. They believe that their subconscious spirit doesn't communicate in words: it responds to imagination, visualization and strong emotion such as desire and love. Their prayers work well, and they know that "ku", their subconscious childlike spirit, controls the communication network with the High Self. They maintain that their conscious spirit must formulate what it desires very carefully in terms to which the subconscious spirit can relate. Therefore, the basis of their prayer process is "belief," or the conviction that what one desires is important and "true;" and they use a language the subconscious spirit understands (i. e., emotion, visualization, desire, etc.) to program it for its mission.
One of the best books for programming the subconscious mind to achieve such a goal is Psycho Cybernetics, by Dr. Maxwell Maltz. It describes in detail how the conscious mind can program the emotional subconscious biocomputer of our mind to achieve any goal that it chooses. The book doesn't discuss in any detail the data network which links the subconscious with our Father Above. It does, however, provide an excellent programming language and instructions for programming the subconscious. Think of the Kahuna prayer technique as operating a giant, living, cosmic biocomputer network. The conscious mind is a small-data entry front end biocomputer. It is directly linked to a subconscious biocomputer which has far more powerful capabilities.
The subconscious maintains memory, takes care of the autonomic nervous system which keeps our body systems functioning properly, and creates various possible scenarios for achieving any goal programmed into it by the conscious mind. If it is functioning properly, the subconscious mind can also go "on line" with the great "mainframe" Cosmic Spirit in the heavens! That is, it can communicate with and ask the help of our Father Above of the Christians, our High Self of the Kahunas, or as the Meso-Americans say, the Great Spirit in the Sky."
"They program their subconscious spirit to relay prayer requests over the "aka" cord communication network to their High Self for materialization into our 3-D script. They conceive of their subconscious spirit as being reptilian in nature and their conscious spirit to be mammalian. When they program their subconscious to relay a prayer, they use "water" images.
The conscious mind thinks of heaven as a place where the sun shines, clouds drift by, birds fly, and rain originates. The subconscious, being reptilian, thinks of heaven as a place where oceans ebb and flow, fish swim and water evaporates when rain is needed. So, when the conscious biocomputer codes information in the subconscious biocomputer, it uses visualization, imagination, and desire in water terms.
When Kahunas speak to each other, it's on the conscious level. They use air terminology equating heaven with a place in the sky. Kahunas were stewards cooperating with God to make things better for Mother Earth, Brother Sky, and our plant and animal friends. As God's "companions," they functioned to keep things in balance here on earth. They asked God to send rain if the crops seemed to need water: they fine-tuned things here at the local level.
When rain was desired, they programmed the subconscious reptilian spirit by visualizing themselves standing in water. The subconscious believes it possible to blow water through a reed or a straw and have it come out the other end. First, they held their breaths and then blew through a water-filled reed and voila -- the water comes out the other end. So, the kahunas breathed deeply several times to reinforce in their subconscious minds that they were going to send a gift of "water" to the High Self for Its use in making rain. They then visualized the subconscious blowing the water in which they were standing, up the "aka cord" (i. e., a snake like umbilical cord to the Universe through which water could be sent). After giving a gift of water to the High Self, they then "visualized" God sending rain down upon them as if it was happening now! They ended their prayers by asking God to rain down His blessings through them as a channel. Then, they waited, for in time, their prayer would "mana-fest", or materialize in the world around them.
Although the prayer was consciously formulated to have water evaporate from the ocean and form clouds, which they wished to have God bring to the island and rain on their crops, they couldn't program their subconscious to understand that message in those terms. So they used visualization, belief, desire and imagination, which the subconscious does understand. It worked nicely and they became accustomed to conditioning their subconscious to send prayers in that manner, not only for rain but for anything they desired. The subconscious believed that by sending water (mana), God would have the necessary prayer stuff to make their desires come true; thus, came the phrase, "manna from heaven".
end of excerpt
I had practiced using mana the Kahuna way on various occasions in the past but now I decided to quantify, once and for all, how effective mana is for improving crop yields. During 1992 I performed the following experiment. I planted the same number of squash in three experimental areas. I did not pray for the plants in area 1; I sent Reiki 2 prayers for the squash in area 2; and I sent Reiki 2 Prayers, enhanced by mana, for the squash in area three.
I then returned to Florida for the summer and while away I daily sent Reiki 2 prayers to the squash plants in area 2, and Reiki 2 prayers, enhanced with mana, for the squash in area 3. Upon my return in the fall I picked and weighed the squash in each area. The squash receiving Reiki 2 prayers daily weighed over six times the weight of the unprayed for squash. The squash receiving Reiki prayers enhanced by mana, however, weighed thirty-eight times the weight of the unprayed for squash. I was elated with the results! However, each breakthrough just seemed to lead to other experiments! Now the question became: "If Reiki 2 prayers, enhanced with mana, does this well what will Reiki 3 prayers enhanced with mana do"?

Gardening With Subtle Energies
By Don Elwood
If sending Reiki 2 prayers, enhanced with mana, improves crop production dramatically what will Reiki 3 prayers, enhanced by mana, do?
After discovering that Reiki 2 prayers, enhanced by mana, increased squash production by thirty-eight times my curiosity got the better of me; I wanted to become a Reiki 3 practitioner in order to quantify the effects of Reiki 3 payers on plants. Unfortunately I soon discovered that becoming a Reiki 3 practitioner was very expensive if one is attuned by a traditional Japanese Reiki 3 Master. I did not have the necessary $10,000 for such an attunement. I had heard that "independent" Reiki teachers were far more reasonable in prices, if one could find an "independent" teacher.
In the far east there is a saying that "when you are ready, a teacher will be provided". Sure enough, I was ready, and a teacher was provided. I had been obtaining artwork for my second book Spiritual Gardening At It's Best-A Quest for the Navoti Spirit and was trying to describe to the artist what I wished the cover to convey in art form. More specifically, a Genie answering prayers for plants, and I asked if the artist knew what Reiki was. She replied: "Yes, in fact Sananda in the computer store two doors down is a Reiki practitioner." This surprised me for Reiki was not that well known in America during the early 1990s. After leaving the artist I visited the computer store and discussed my Reiki experiments with Sananda.
As it turned out Sananda was an "independent" Reiki 3 Master and was willing to attune me for a far more reasonable price than $10,000. (I later discovered that Sananda was not only a Reiki 3 Master but a "walk-in" as well. This was the second walk-in I had met within six months! That also amazed me.) I soon became a Reiki 3 Master myself.
During the next garden season I set out to quantify the effects of Reiki 3 prayers on plants. As soon as the soil could be tilled, I planted 3 experimental areas with corn. I did not pray for the seeds in area 1. I sent Reiki 2 prayers enhanced with mana for the seeds in experimental area 2, and Reiki 3 prayers enhanced with mana for the seeds in area 3. Each day thereafter, I sent Reiki 2 prayers, enhanced with mana, for the corn in area 2 and Reiki 3 prayers, enhanced with mana, for the seeds in area 3.
Within a month of planting the seeds I obtained an engineering assignment in Indiana and had to send the prayers from a distance for the rest of the season. In previous seasons I had made the mistake of praying for my entire garden; I soon learned the error of my ways. If beans produce ten times more beans in the year following a Reiki 2 prayer blessing, weeds will also. I soon discovered that God "loves" weeds as much as (S)He does cultivated plants. Sending prayers for the entire garden has resulted in my having some of the finest, most prolific weeds in Virginia! As a result I no longer send prayers to my garden. I, selectively, send prayers to only the cultivated crops of my choice.
Corn prefers fertile soil and doesn't like to be crowded by weeds. I could not irrigate, fertilize or weed the garden in my absence and the prolific weeds completely took over the experimental areas. Therefore, I didn't expect to find much corn, if any, upon my return home.
I waded through seven foot tall weeds to inspect the remains of my corn experiment. In the area which received no prayers two cobs grew on a single stalk. The cobs were 5.5 inches long and had very few kernels on each cob.
The corn in the area which had received Reiki 2 prayers, enhanced with mana, did better. There were two seven inch cobs per central stalk and each had a full twelve rows of kernels. Three side sucker stalks had also grown beside the central stalks to a level about knee high. Surprisingly, there was a bunch of corn kernels growing underneath each of the male tassels of these side stalks! Apparently the corn tried so hard to please God that it produced what corn it could, however it could. The plant hadn't received enough fertilizer to produce four complete stalks, and weeds robbed more then their share of the fertilizer that was available. So the plants produced corn without wasting energy on producing cobs! I thought that to be fantastic.
Then I inspected the third experimental area. All plants had developed four complete cob bearing stalks. Each had two cobs per stalk which averaged seven inches in length and had 12 complete rows of kernels. I was impressed. I felt that I was indeed getting closer to rediscovering how the Hopi medicine men of old had blessed the ancient Navoti corn. Still, my corn wasn't bearing twelve cobs per plant yet. Perhaps if the corn received more fertilizer or perhaps if the Reiki 3 prayers are applied over several seasons the resultant corn will improve. Therefore, I decided to continue my quest further.
I realized that if one could develop prolific open pollinated seeds of the type the Hopi Indian ancestors produced, that world food problems would become a thing of the past. I therefore focused my studies on the development of prolific open pollinated seeds. I had already discovered that the descendants of seeds blessed by Reiki prayers the previous season were far more productive in following seasons and decided to start a seed catalogue offering Reiki blessed seeds to the general public.
(Readers may request a seed catalogue from: The Foundation for the Betterment of Mankind, 6482 Piney Woods Rd., Riner Va, 24149 or by e-mail from hol@nrv.net).
I then set out to improve my gardening techniques.
I researched various books on gardening in earnest and experimented with sprouts to quantify the benefits of using various subtle energies. I had learned that prayer energy by itself is extremely powerful but how does one improve prayer energy? You can enhance prayers with mana. You can pray for longer periods of time and you can pray more frequently, but what can you do to further improve the prayer process or it's effects?
I found one answer in the book The Power of Prayers For Plants. The following are excerpts from my book Spiritual Gardening at Its Best- A Quest for the Navoti Spirit concerning their findings:
"It was written by Reverend Franklin Loehr who founded the Religious Research Foundation of America. It discusses three years of research starting in 1952 in which 150 people performed over 700 experiments involving up to 100,000 measurements to determine the effects of prayers on plants. Their prayer experiments successfully increased seedling growth rates by 5-50 percent. Their goal, however, was not to improve the productivity of plants. They were using the growth response of seedlings to quantify the effects of various prayer types and techniques so that they might discover which prayers worked best. They improved their prayer techniques by practice on plants so that their prayers would be more effective for faith-healing. The eventual goal was to help sick people and animals regain good health through prayer."
"These studies were intriguing to me as for some years I had been using the exact opposite approach for plants. As I stated in my book Quest for the Light, I have been experimenting with various powerful spiritual healing techniques to improve the productivity of plants, which is the reverse of what they were trying to do. I decided therefore to perform similar experiments to determine if my prayer techniques were equal to, or superior to theirs. If their prayer processes and techniques work best then I can improve my crop yields by using their techniques. If my prayer techniques work best, then perhaps faith healing of patients can be improved."
"As I compared my past experiments to theirs I noted there were similarities in that we both prayed to our higher power. There were also differences as well. For example:
Sprout Growth-Their studies were based on sprout length during the first few days of growth. My past experiments have been in a garden environment to determine the effects of prayer on germination rates, plant growth and productivity on current and future seasons
Holy Water - They found prayers for seeds had little effect on growth rates of the seedlings. Their greatest success was with prayers for the sprouts and water (hereafter called holy or blessed water) which was given to the seedlings as they grew. My success had come from prayers for the plants themselves. I had not considered using a holy water approach to gardening, but find it intriguing.
Prayer Type-They identified four different types of prayers (mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual) and compared resultant growth rates of seedlings to identify the best positive and negative prayers. Unfortunately they did not explain how to perform any of the four prayer types. I have been experimenting with Reiki, known to some in America as the "laying of the hands", Kahuna prayers ancient prayer techniques of the Mayan K'u Hunabs, Egyptian Pharaohs and Polynesian kahuna priests as well as the effects of crystals on germination rates, plant growth, and yields.
Negative Prayers-They experimented with negative prayers on seedlings and found that negative prayers had a more dramatic effect than positive prayers. (i. e., People who make negative prayers successfully can effectively negate plant growth. However, it was found that up to 80 percent of those who attempted to make negative prayers didn't succeed. Actually they made the seedlings grow even better than the unprayed for seedlings). I hadn't been making negative prayers. I had, however, been considering using God's help in ridding the garden of weeds, bugs, fungus, rabbits and such. (S)He does such a good job of increasing plant growth and productivity, I thought that perhaps there might be a way of soliciting assistance with such undesired elements. Negative prayers might have some merit if used for these purposes."
End of excerpts.
I found the foregoing to be of significant importance. If water can "store" prayer energy, perhaps other things can as well. This would increase the duration of the effects of prayers for plants.

Gardening With Subtle Energies
By Don Elwood
Increasing the Effects of Prayers for Plants.
Reverend Loehr's prayers for plants experiments in the 1950s found that they could not increase plant performance by praying for just seeds but they could improve sprout growth by praying for the water used on sprouts. They increased sprout length by up to 52% by blessing the water. They discovered that water stores prayer energy and plants are energized by it over a period of time.
I had sent Reiki 3 prayers, enhanced with mana, for corn seeds and they grew over five times the length of sprouts which had not been prayed for and wondered how much more growth would be attained if I prayed for the water as well. Sure enough, corn sprouts grew 21 times longer when Reiki 3 prayers, enhanced by mana, are sent for both the water and the sprouts. Water stores prayer energy! It wasn't until some time later that I learned that water will only store prayer energy for a half an hour unless other means are used.
I had attended a lecture by a man who was demonstrating a radionics machine. He stated that he had tested the effects of various kinds of healing energy being stored in water, including Reiki, Kahuna and regular prayer energies. He claimed that the prayer energies varied in intensity but water lost all measurable effects after a half an hour, that is -- all except Reiki prayer energy, and then only when the Reiki symbols were affixed to the water jug. That fascinated me.
I realized that I could bless a Reiki symbol and ask God to use it as His catalyst to continuously send prayer energy to the surrounding area. I could put the Reiki symbols on patients bandages, nightgowns, or water jugs and they would continuously receive the effects of God's prayer energy. I could also put these Reiki symbols called "yantras" on water bottles which I watered my plants with. Thereafter, I would not have to pray as long or as frequently, for the water would store and convey the energy to the plants and vivify them for up to a half an hour thereafter.
Just to prove this premise, I tested it. I drew Reiki yantras on a plastic bottle filled with tap water and prayed for them to perform as God's catalyst for vivifying the water for the benefit of plants. I only blessed them once on the first day of the test. I then used it to water a different set of corn seeds each week for a month. Even after a months period of time, the holy water was still encouraging sprout growth up to four times that of sprouts grown in plain tap water. Water will store ki, or prayer energy for only a half an hour, but the yantras "continuously" radiate Gods energy to the water. Now I had a way to continuously send prayer energy to plants without having to pray all of the time.
It was such a good idea that I wondered if there were other ways of sending beneficial energy to plants continuously over a period of time and started to search for such methods. Sure enough, there are many methods for doing so. Crystal energy is one of the more potent means that I discovered. The following are excerpts from my book Spiritual Gardening At Its Best on the subject.
"During previous tests I discovered that quartz crystals, if pointed toward seeds as they germinated, had a dramatic effect on the germination rates, but if the butt of crystals were placed toward seeds it had the opposite effect; germination rates and times dropped significantly. I was attempting at the time to determine if a crystal which I prayed for with Reiki would increase germination rates. I discovered that the seeds germinated very well at crystal points regardless of whether they have been prayed for or not.
I had reasoned, during the earlier tests, that the increased germination rates were due to the lightning rod effect. Pointed objects like iron lightning rods emit electrons or negative ions from their pointed tips. It occurred to me that crystal points were doing the same thing-removing negative ions from the water surrounding the butt end and emitting negative ions to the water surrounding the pointed end. Plants attract negatively-charged moisture to their roots. The roots absorb the moisture and remove dissolved elements as food. As plants sway in the prevailing winds which blow from west to east in the northern hemisphere they sway through the earth's magnetic field. By so doing, they function as a negative ion generator emitting negative ions from their leaf points. This in turn removes negative ions from the roots of the plant which then tend to attract more negative ions and moisture from the soil surrounding them. If that were so, I felt it not worth the effort to experiment further with prayers for crystals. I felt that using plain crystals would help seeds germinate better and that was good enough for me. That is, until a friend challenged me to try one of his "programmed crystals"
Chuck, a Reiki student, loaned me two crystals which he said he had "programmed" for my experiments. One was programmed to help germinate seeds and grow sprouts and one to bless water in which seeds would be germinating. I really doubted that they would have any significant effect over plain crystals but, just to keep him happy I included his two crystals in a test with three smaller unprayed for crystals I already had. I prepared a test for five sets of seeds to determine the effects of unprayed for and prayed for crystals."
Sprouts in the blessed water adjacent Chuck's programmed crystal grew 5.14 times longer than sprouts grown without a crystal in the same blessed water. Sprout growth at the smaller crystal points were relatively insignificant by comparison. It became immediately apparent to me that more tests with "programmed" crystals were in order.
First I had to learn some things about crystals and their effect on seed germination and plant growth when no prayers were involved. Was size of the crystals a factor? Would too large a crystal have a detrimental effect on seeds? I even discovered to my surprise that there are male and female crystals. Point-ended crystals are female and crystals ending with a flat edge are male crystals (that seems as if it ought to be the opposite to an engineer like me, but so be it.) Would male crystals have the same effect as female crystals on seed germination and growth rates? If just the lightning rod effect was responsible for the crystals effectiveness it would seem that pointed crystals would be superior. More tests were obviously necessary. First, with no prayers involved to determine:
If crystal size is an influential factor in increasing growth rates,
If crystal gender is an influential factor in increasing growth rates, and if so,
Which gender has the most effect on growth rates.
Growth rates had increased so dramatically that I didn't want to overlook any of the possible attributes of crystals which may have been responsible for the increase. So off I trotted to a crystal store and procured several crystals of various sizes and genders. The crystals were then separated into different piles by size and gender. Next, I selected five sets of crystals of varying sizes, one set of five from the female piles and one set of five from the male piles (i.e., the crystals were graded into pairs of approximately the same size ranging from small to large for each of the two genders).
Two pans with five sets of five seeds each were arranged as in previous tests. In one pan, male crystals were placed sharp edge toward the seeds in ascending order from small to large in slots A through E. In the other pan female crystals were placed point toward the seeds in a similar order. All seeds were moistened with tap water daily for six days. Chuck was visiting me the day I was preparing for the crystal test and told me that crystal size wouldn't matter and also that single or double terminated crystals would both have a positive effect on the sprouts. He said he could program the smallest crystal I had and it would do as well as a big one. I doubted it, but just to keep him happy I let him do his "programming" on the smallest crystal I had. I pointed it at one seed, and included it in the test with the bigger unprogrammed crystals.
Seedling performance varied as follows. There seemed to be little difference between results in the proximity of either male or female crystals. The results were mixed as to gender of crystals. Sometimes a set would grow better adjacent to a female, sometimes a male. There was no significant difference and as the size of the crystals were somewhat varied, such differences could have caused any inconsistencies.
Larger crystals produced more growth--and significantly so. The results were conclusive as a function of size; sprouts at the points of the 1/16 x 1/2 inch crystals were nowhere near as long as sprouts at the point of the 3/4 x1 and 1/2 inch crystals--all but one, that is.
The sprout at the point of Chuck's "programmed" 1/16 x 1/2 inch crystal was enormous! That sprout was 7.5 inches long and had three root structures growing from its base! It was 8.06 times the length of the average sprout grown at the unprogrammed crystal points! The average length of the sprouts at the point of the unprogrammed crystals of the same size was .93 inches.
Needless to say, I had to know how Chuck had accomplished this marvelous programming feat! Why, I wondered, had I not gotten similar results in my previous attempts at praying for crystals?
After hearing his explanation of "programming", I realized my past mistake. You have to be very careful what you pray for. What you ask for: you get, not what you think you ask for.
In my previous experiments I made Reiki prayers for the "CRYSTAL", i.e., I prayed for God to bless the crystal. I did not ask God to attune the crystal as His catalyst to help seeds germinate. That is what Chuck had done. He asked God to attune (through him as a channel) one crystal to help seeds to grow better. He asked God to attune the other crystal to bless the water surrounding the seeds for the seeds' benefit. This spiritual technique called for some rethinking on my part.
end of excerpts
In the following weeks I tried various programming techniques on crystals and tested them. The best performance was as follows:
"The longest sprout measured 18.5 inches and had 13 roots on it! It had grown 170 times longer than the average sprout in plain water! This was indeed phenomenal! I realized that such a huge increase was to some degree a result of the poor performance of the plain seeds grown during the dark phase of the moon; but for a sprout to grow 18.5 inches in six days and have 13 roots is one outstanding achievement! I couldn't help thinking how well God does when one finally figures out how to get in step with Him. I transplanted that sprout to live out its natural life. Shame it wasn't an open pollinated seed; it would have produced a great line of descendants."
After the excitement wore off, I mulled the matter over a bit. If crystal energy is so beneficial for sprouts, perhaps other kinds of subtle energies would also be beneficial. What effect would magnetism, sound, music, color, and cosmic energies have on plants? I therefore started to explore the effects of other subtle energies on plants.

Gardening With Subtle Energies
By Don Elwood
The effects of various subtle energies on plants.
By 1994 I had learned enough about gardening to easily live off of the land if I ever have to. Still there were other possibilities for improving my gardening talents. I therefore decided to focus further gardening investigations into the following categories.
I would:
explore, quantify, and document the effects of various subtle energies on plants for possible future use.
continue my quest to rediscover the secret of the Navoti spirit. If I can somehow increase the performance of seeds and their descendants to be as productive as the Hopi Indian Navoti corn, I can conceivably increase the worlds food supply by six hundred percent. I decided to start the Hands of Light Seed Company for selling highly productive open pollinated seeds. This approached my ideal of leaving the world a better place in which to live in seven generations from now.
integrate the more cost effective subtle energy techniques I discover into overall holistic gardening concepts. (i. e., Combining subtle energies is synergistic and results in greater plant performance than the sum of each technique that is applied).
develop garden designs, and techniques which utilize the more cost effective subtle energies, and
document the above in various books. One series to present effective subtle energy gardening concepts and a second series of How To Design, Build, and Use Subtle Energies for highly productive Holistic Gardens.
In keeping with the above goals, I presented a series of studies in my book Holistic Gardening - A Scientific Approach for Gardening With Love, to quantify and document the effects of various subtle energies on plants. Some of my results are shown in the following excerpts from this book:
"The following is a list of some of the subtle energies which affect the growth of seeds and sprouts during growth periods where there are no fertilizer requirements (and a few during later stages of growth where fertilizer is required). It should be noted that these findings were obtained during different demonstrations, performed during different moon phases, and, therefore, are not necessarily arranged in exact order of precedence. This list will, however, provide the reader with meaningful data to properly assess the role of subtle energies in the scheme of things.BASIC TECHNIQUE

It becomes immediately obvious that gardening with these elements during the sprouting stage is beneficial. Plants also benefit in later stages of growth where these elements increase vitality, with or without, extensive use of fertilizer.
Conclusion
Subtle energies affect plant performance significantly during the sprouting stage where nourishment is currently thought to be totally provided by the seed.
Preliminary evidence indicates that significant improvement of plant performance can also be achieved in later stages of growth, even when little or no fertilizer is used.
Therefore, it can be concluded that some subtle energy techniques, used singly or in combination, can and should be used with conventional techniques in an overall holistic approach to agriculture, aquaculture and mariculture."

The above results were significant but I soon found that if I combined these subtle energies into gardening practices the effect was synergistic. That is, they result in plant performance that was greater than the sum of the increase that each subtle energy provided by itself. 1 + 1 = 2 is a symbiotic system, but 1 + 1 = 2X is a synergistic system. In a synergistic system one achieves more output than the sum of the inputs. I therefore began to experiment with symbiotic and synergistic combinations of subtle energies in a garden environment. The following excerpts are from my book How To Design, Build and Use a Subtle-energy, Pyramid Intensive Garden which shows the benefits of such combinations.
Combining Symbiotic and Synergistic Techniques
In an experiment in which I combined the subtle energies of music, sound, water stored in reflected sunlight from a flat white surface, water vivified by programmed quartz crystals and prayers, the results were as follows:
Combining the symbiotic and synergistic elements we get:
Schubert's 8+ Music (a 11.4 increase by itself)
plus water stored in reflected sunlight from a white surface (a 2.24 increase by itself)
plus programmed crystals pointing east in water used for plants (a 33.1 increase in sprout growth in itself)
plus prayers for the water (a 52% increase for regular prayers, or four times increase for Reiki prayers) can result in a combined synergistic effect greater than the individual increases in synergy.
In experiments at the Foundation for the Betterment of Mankind, a 78 times increase in sprout growth was achieved with this combination.
Sprouts respond favorably to these techniques because seed energy is sufficient to permit maximum growth when favorable conditions permit. Applying synergistic techniques to plants after the sprouting stage will also encourage plant performance, but only within the energy limits of the plant itself and what it can manufacture in conjunction with light and nutrients which are available to it. However, even in these later stages of development, if we also apply light and nutrients in a synergistic manner, the results can be synergistic.
Further Combinations Of Synergy
Further combinations of synergistic features and techniques are possible, but the benefits are not as cost effective if a plant's normal growth potential has been reached. A corn seed can support 13 roots and an overall sprout length of between 18.5 to 20 inches in six days if combinations of synergy are applied. Adding more synergistic techniques past that point will not be as cost effective.
This means that you should choose the features and techniques that you wish to use and apply some or all until you feel that further plant response is not worth the cost or effort involved. If you still wish to increase plant performance past this point, you must consider either changing the environment, or the manner in which the plant responds to the environment. Thereafter, additional combinations of synergy can be cost effective."
