View Full Version : A mini vert

I've followed along in the old Vert forum...and I briefly followed DDoc's site as well. I always have found it fascinating but never did make the plunge into the huge plant counts...nor was I ever willing to pay that much coin for his molds.
Anyways...I came across this thread on another site ( I'll try to find it in a minute) that was about a pot over a pot 360* grow. I thought it was a pretty neat piece of work over all:)
You can't tell by the pics...but apparently he has a couple 1/2" holes in the black pvc and uses a couple spacers between the pots to aid air flow for the plant zone while he sucks air thru the light tube. Also...my first impression was that the pots were small, like 12" in diameter or something and that thru me for a bit...it's actually 24"

originally the idea came from czech grower named prenda http://grower.cz/forum/showthread.php?threadid=15126

who did it with a 150, four clones in individual containers and he'd consistently pull 120-140 grams every 8 weeks. looks like he moving on to a 250 but still pulling around 150 grams.

http://grower.cz/forum/showthread.php?threadid=21105&perpage=16&pagenumber=3

Another czech dude was doing this with the bottom tub for hydro and again just a 150 and pulled 170grams per cycle with four clones. They called it a mobilni grow or something like that.

Thx for the links j :)
Yup, that's a pretty neat way to use a small bulb.

amalka,

thanks man - couldn't find that thread - just remembered prenda as he used to post on the 150 club - how much did g-man's 70watt grow yield?

Joe, he said he got 55 to 60 grams the first run but only 40 the second as he didn't veg long enough.
Here's his thread on building a 100W vert http://grower.cz/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12456

seems like compact flourescents would be the cat's meow for these setups.

seems like compact flourescents would be the cat's meow for these setups.

I'd beg to differ - a small HID is better than a similar wattage compact floro for at least three reasons;

1. a small HID can be remotely ballasted. Look at these threads - the ballast is outside of the grow space greatly decreasing the amount of heat inside the grow space that must be ventilated. A compact flourescent of the same wattage will produce more heat in the grow space than the HID because it has a self contained ballast.

2. Lumen/watt ratio - even a small HID will get around or over 100 lumens/watt whereas most compact flourescents are lucky to get 75 lumens/watt - that's 25% less light hitting the plants per watt. Also the energy not converted to light in the compact flourescents ends up becoming heat (it's gotta go somewhere!) again increasing the amount of heat in the grow space for the same wattage compact flourescent as compared to an HID.

3. replacement costs - when a bulb in the HID blows or outlives it's useful life you just change the bulb, with compact flourescents you have to change the whole unit. A new 150 watt hps can be had for $20 in homedepot or less if you're willing to order online or look around. A new 150 watt floro (like the envirolight) will cost much more ($60-$100 from what I've seen).

so yeah it sounds like a perfect job for floros but the facts are a small wattage HID is the better choice.

Greetings All, Doc Pot here

I wanted to do an update on my barrel of green grow system.
I have now moved up to a 400 watt hps light system, and have successfully ben able to control the heat temps.

I purchased a double dayton blower and it is working perfect.I now am shooting for .75 grams per watt. My first harvest from the barrel of green (juicy fruit grow) was 4.8 ounces dry, or 138 grams approx. Not to bad at all
for this micro grow setup.

Eventually I want to find larger tubs to use and try out a digital 600 watt system.

If anyone has any ?'s about the system please feel free to ask them here.

I am also currently working on showing step by step on how I wired up the ballest and power cords and such.

Hi C-ray, yes that is my intake fan.I have a 3" duct at the top of the barrel and the heat is evacuated up to the cieling into the attic.

It keeps the temps around 72-78 degrees all the time.

Thanks for visiting.

Well harvest has come and gone for my BOG blueberry grow, we had 4.8 z's dry.

I have 2 more weeks to go in the other BOG chamber, and will harvest some nice hindu kush.

I have started another BOG grow with one of my all time favorites
Juicy Fruit (fruit juicy)

Juicy fruit is a predominent thai strain that is easy on the throat, lungs, and the taste is out of this world. It develops larg heavy resinous buds, and the taste is out of this world.

Thanks for stopping by my friends.

Have a great day

So almost 5oz....from what, 400W ???

One thing that comes to mind when you mention expanding up to 600W is that you will have to go no only wider, but also taller. And that might work more efficiently with 2 levels of plants VS one.

I use a 250 watt hps bulb in this particular barrel grow.I also have a barrel that has a 400 watt hps bulb in it and I hope to get .75 gram per watt.

Thanks for all of the positive comments folks, I really appreciate it very much.

I am proud to say that skung mag is doing a 4 part article on my BOG design.

As far as moving up to a 600 watt system, I am in agreement with having to enlarge the planters in both directions, ( circumfrence and height)

I am looking into 55 gallon plastic drums as we speak.

More to follow.

Thanks so much for dropping by.
