Tell me if I'm doing over kill...

My amended soil from last year turned out to be OK or so I believe, in part because I found worms in it... a rare thing for our area...

Now on to what I'm doing...more than doubling the size of my garden...144 sq ft

Yesterday picked up 3 yds of fresh compost and 3 yards of amended top soil...

Dug out about 8 inches of the old garden..moved this to the side.... and then added 5lbs of Bone meal, 5 lbs Dolomite lime, 3 lbs blood meal, 3 lbs of epsom salts and 2" of steer shit..on top the balance of last years soil

Turned it in....

Then added appx. 6 inches of compost and top soil and repeated the above amendents again...and turned it in..

I'll be adding 2 more layers like this...with the final two also having some of the old soil truned into it as well...

Am I doing an overkill on the nutes?

I'm thinking of alfalfa pellets to the next layer in place of the blood meal...

When finished I'm going to give a good watering and let it sit..for several weeks before I add my tomatoes around the perimeter...saving the middle for the ladies whose arrival should be around the end of May..

Let me know if I'm doing anything wrong or suggestions...

It's not overkill at all....because you're allowing time for everything to come back alive. I love alfalfa, but I feel it can delay the harvest date. Not always a bad thing as it allows larger yield due to longer flowering period. Your climate is golden through mid Nov...then the average temp drops so that growth slows to a snails pace. Because I enjoy sativas so much, I find it better to just use a tea or top admend early in veg, so the plants finish before thanksgiving.

Are going to be moving clones out, or are you using seeds again? Worth mentioning that compared to seedlings, clones will go nuts in a rich hole. With the few months of veg you'll have, it's best to plan on adding bloom ferts around Aug. don't forget the Bt spray. :D

OLU you ole fart what are you up to? Attempting to grow some more fine meds it looks like! As long as you are going to let it sit and let the microbes convert any hot spots you should be okay. My only suggestion is to make up several gallons of light Alfalfa tea. Try and get yourself some of General Hydroponics- Subculture to innoculate your tea with. A good blend would be 1 cup alfalfa pellets, 1/4 teaspoon sub culture, 6 drops of Superthrive, one teaspoom Vitamin B1, one teaspoon Foxfarm Grow, one teaspoon Maxicrop Seaweed, and three tablespoons of non-sulfured molasses per gallon. Strain off the solids after twentyfour hours and dilute tea by half with plain water. That will give you two gallons of a very light tea high in microbes.

PM me dude let me know how the project is going?
