Man charged with getting pot in the mail

CHARLES CITY — A Floyd County man faces drug charges for allegedly receiving marijuana in the mail.

Arrested at the Charles City Post Office was 43-year-old Santos Lara of Charles City, Floyd County Attorney Marilyn Dettmer reported.

Lara is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and failure to affix a drug tax stamp, both class D felonies.

Working with postal inspectors, Law Enforcement Against Drugs agents intercepted the package containing eight pounds of marijuana that was mailed from Texas, according to Dettmer.

“This is not an unusual method for drug trafficking to occur,” Dettmer said. “It is difficult to check on all inroads that dealers use because resources are so limited with homeland security issues now taking precedence.”

Lara remains in Floyd County Jail on $30,000 bond.

LEAD members are from the Charles City Police Department, Floyd County Sheriff’s Department and Floyd County Attorney’s Office.

August 4, 2006

HILLSBOROUGH, N.H. --A Peterborough contractor was arrested on drug charges this week after police said he received 25 pounds of marijuana in the mail at a home construction site.

Paul Loukedes, 35, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He was arrested Wednesday in Hillsborough, along with another man, at the construction site.

Police, postal inspectors and Hillsborough and Peterborough police then searched Loukedes' truck and home in Peterborough and reported finding nearly $5,000 in cash and records and documents related to the drug investigation.

Damn! Surely those amounts would reek. How could one NOT get caught?

I think the fact that they scrawled "Not Marijuana" all over the package instead of "fragile" may have had something to do with it.
