View Full Version : Dense alternating growth - but no pistles yet

I have a Sour Bubble bx3 & a Sensi Star outdoor - both have vegged 4 to 5 months & were supercropped a month ago.

The Sour Bubble showed preflowers a month ago, but then stopped pistle production, probably in response to the supercropping.

The Sensi Star has very female tell-tale growth patterns; dense alternating nodes & the pointy bits where the branches protrude from, which I've always recognized as early female flower development.. but on this Sensi Star, these are not forming pistles.

After flushing both plants, I've been feeding them little nitrogen and plenty of bloom (and super-bloom type) nutes. Some lower leaves have yellowed significantly already but the pistles are few on the SB and are absent on the SS.

I'm at 50N on the west coast, so I am anxious to see flowers begin asap, since I saw a huge Burmese mold in early October last year & don't want that repeated this year.

In my haste to get these plants to throw out flowers, I gave them a dose of Superbud about a week after I saw the pistles on the Sour Bubble, so I may have completely ruined both plants chances of maturing properly... I dunno.

Any advice you seasoned growers may be willing to offer would be much appreciated.

Please note: I don't wish to restart any superbud controversy - but if you have experience with that product and/or can lend some of your knowledge on any aspect of this situation, I'm all ears.

TIA folks.

Peace.

i tried SB on my SS and was dissapointed
saying that i have a large plant that has yet to show its pystils
its august now so i may have to force her
or
i may just leave her ( i have grown at 49-50th vancouver Isle and harvested mid November before !)
kind of a drag doing it au naturel ; as bud rot and a couple of frosts will finish her off if affected
Has She stopped growing in height?
no pystils , but sexed female , right ?
no disturbed light patterns , right ?

may i suggest a little patience; they'll show within the next couple of weeks
Joe.

Hey Joe:wave: Hope life's treating you well across the pond. Your experience as described couldn't be closer to my current sitch.

I just came back from visiting both plants and I have to say the Sensi Star is bulking up very fast... just lacking pistles atm. Again, I didn't bombard her with the superbud (ie. half of the bottles mixing instructions), but the vertical growth has pretty much slowed to a crawl.... and I flushed the b-geezuz outta her shortly after the application & have made certain to avoid adding H2O2 or PK-13/14 per all the online scares I've read with regard to their dangerous effects when coupled with products containing paclobutrazol.

Yes, I did confirm her gender early on, so she's good that way. As far as light patterns go... I have been covering her with a large, thick, poly bag each night from 6:30pm-7am for just over a week, so you are probably right about patience being the key factor now.

It's my first time growing what I consider to be truely connoisseur strains from seed, so I hope I don't wind up regretting adding the damned PGR.

I really appreciate you sharing your know-how bro. I'll keep ya posted re. whether she becomes stash or trash.

how's the stretch on them lately?
how much SB did you give them? ml/L

1 ml/L & stretch is extremely minute since applying. The fan leaves at the apical meristem are narrower than typical veg growth & the nodes forming below each top are profuse... I can certainly understand how bud rot could become an issue late in flower.... Btw, I have been giving all plants regular doses of a silicate additive to help avoid such a (rot) problem. Fingers firmly crossed. lol.
Cheers!

what are you using ; Liquid Silicon ?
Good Stuff, that will thicken the cell walls making it more resistant to pests
also maybe remove lower branches that could touch the ground, or surrounding plants

sir_NiceGuy, heaven forbid, but if the worst happens then maybe "ROTSTOP" will be needed www.hydrogarden.com

Thanks for the Rotstop suggestion JKP.
I'm using Pro-Silicate which is made by Grotek and have been applying it to their roots as well as via foliar spraying for a few months.

I'm finally seeing a few pistles appear on both plants, so my anxiety is steadily being relieved.

I will be picking up a bottle of Serenade and/or Safer's Defender soon just in case...

Now...My latest concern.... Do any of you wise men/women know if there's a technique to reduce the obvious aroma of bud outdoors?. I live very close to other houses and can already tell it's going to be a sleepless 2 months if this aroma keeps increasing.

This experience sure is making me appreciate the controls we have indoors.

just get some cool neighbours, then smell aint an issue :)

 That's a few hundred thousand bucks more than I intend to spend :)

I've figured out that spraying a dilute film of neem oil on the plants reduces the aroma significantly. Too bad I won't be able to continue spraying them when their in full bloom.

As it turned out, the Sour Bubble and Sensi Star were not the major cause of the smell anyways. I've put all of the smelliest plants that are still in 1 gallon pots into a large poly bag & brought them indoors where they have remained (bagged/indoors) for the past 2 days. I can't smell any weed outdoors now, even though I left the largest of my girls (2 SB, 2 SS, a Chronic, a C99 and an Ogers Kush) out there.

Not sure which strains are causing the most smell but when I open the poly bag it reeks the whole house out instantly. These consist of 2 JTR, a Jillybean, a Blowfish, a Sour Turbo, a Mistress Midori & a White Widow. Now, I have to decide what to do with these...:hmm:

Btw... I just made some colloidal silver overnight :stir: and will be applying it to at least a few plants this week. They are all exellent plants, so I will be happy to have a new batch of fem'd seed from them.:yay:

It's raining today, so will leave the garden alone and check on her tomorrow.

Peace.
