MEDINA -- A major marijuana bust in two quiet Brunswick neighborhoods led to a dozen arrests.
Twelve Vietnamese immigrants now face charges they grew marijuana in the basements of the homes.
Despite the language barrier, the magistrate's message was clear -- a million dollars bond for each of the 12 defendants after drug enforcements units executed eight search warrants in Brunswick Thursday night.
"Somewhere in the approximation of 600 marijuana plants were confiscated from some of these search warrants," Brunswick Safety Department's Nick Solar said.
Six hundred marijuana plants along with cash and $60,000 of marijuana-growing equipment from two quiet neighborhoods, like the one that borders a golf course, where neighbors say the house was quiet, with only small clues to make neighbors suspect what was going on.
"They drove beautiful cars, something I could never afford," neighbor Cindy Nemeth said. "A Lexus SUV."
The bust was a shock to neighbors at a home where the 12 defendants apparently shared the work to keep the operation running.
Authorities even charged that the defendants diverted electricity to avoid the $600 a month power bill to grow the marijuana.
Drug enforcement officers say they cracked the ring after making a bust in Wadsworth.
They also believe they've linked the group to a house in Avon.
