Late last week, officers of the County of Mendocino Marijuana Eradication Team eradicated close to 30,000 marijuana plants in the Mendocino County National Forest, east of Covelo.

Working both Thursday and Friday, COMMET officers, assisted by the U.S. Forest Service, identified a large garden near Hamm's Pass as well as smaller satellite gardens in the other areas. The 14 sites are believed to have been run by a single large drug trafficking organization operating around the Covelo Valley and in the national forest. The case remains under investigation.

COMMET eradicated 29,907 marijuana plants from 14 sites No arrests were made but two camps were found where at least five people are believed to have been living.

Evidence at the scene suggested that the workers were Mexican nationals according to reports from COMMET. In addition to the marijuana, two firearms were seized during the raids, as well as evidence that may lead to the suspects, according to the report.

Last month two men, Robert Cory Want. 28, and Ivan Tillotson, 28, both of Covelo, were shot and killed in the forest near Covelo. They were found near a large marijuana garden and the Mendocino County Sheriff's office has said their deaths are believed to have been related to the illegal cultivation of marijuana in the Covelo area.

Five men have been arrested on drug charges in connection with that case which is still under investigation.

Thats sad. Not the confiscation, but the syndicate part. Let's see, if it were decriminalized, it would take the big$$$ and the greed out (alot anyway). This is the kind of crap that makes the "war" seem ok to the average citizen. People losing their life over a weed.
peace, crew
