BEWARE: Sam's or Costco members!!

I bought a rather expensive but totally innocent item at COSTCO last night. It had a 3 YEAR warranty and all I got for a rcpt. was the "heat tape" kind that fade to NOTHINGNESS in about 3 months...

Clearly, I wanted something more PERMANENT to cover the warranty period; so I asked a manager to make a hard copy... he said he could "copy" it..and I said NO ONE accepts "copies" ... I want an original document.

He THEN told me it didn't matter because COSTCO has a record of everything I've EVER bought under the membership from day one... he said if there was ANY problem, my date of purchase in "in the record"....


BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU BUY AT THESE KINDS OF STORES!!!! I'M NOT REALLY THAT HAPPY ABOUT ALL THE RECORDS OF WINE PURCHASES OVER THE PAST YEAR!!! ...grrrr...

That in itself CAN and WILL affect my G.I. bill benefit to Health Care if the VA gets their hands on it... It's really not that excessive, but if they are treating you for an ingrown toenail... you CAN'T drink at ALL...or they will NOT treat you....

I'm no lawyer, however I do have a good understanding of the ways in which government agenceis can legally share and use data sources. With that said the database maintained of your purchases would not be as a matter of course compared with the VA database in any automated fashion. Systems such as the VA database are stand alone systems enacted under different federal and/or state laws. Interactions between these systems are only as strictly defined by law. Further technical platform differences between the systems prevent efficient data sharing.

My point is the government rarely shares data between it's own systems let alone would it take in information from Sam's club.

Nor would Sam's club give all of their customer's purchase data to VA.

So someone in the VA would have to be investigating you and they would have to make a written request to sam's club for your purchase records and then record a violation on the system against you.

The Sam's club database is being used for much more sinister purposes - tracking your purchases in orde to target local advertising and "specials", and to predict what you will buy so that they can maximize stock turnover .
