nevermind, upon disassembly there was a hydroton pebble stuck in it.

thanks HR for the idea....it's got a filter and all of that. The pebble came backwards through the outlet fitting, down the hoses and into the pump backwards. The pump doesn't run 24/7 so the water comes back through the pump which drains the tray. Just a stupid coincidence. I think I'm going to make some kind of mesh screen to go over the outlet fittings so it doesn't happen again. :teeth:

Mr Smith,
Spray nozzles are the answer to this issue, very inexpensive and boost DO levels too.

When you buy pumps, be they air or water, always buy at least 2..........;)

yeah I_and_I, that's a great tip. If I would have had the money at the time I would have. As soon as we get a little more money in the house I'm gonna get a second air and water pump, and a few other things. Good thing I have a backup bulb right? :teeth: :D

I ran an experiment with 2 Rio 600 pumps. They are rated at about 200gph.
Timed and filled a gallon jug with each pump. Both took about 58 seconds.
Tied the 2 pumps together with a T fitting and repeated the experiment. Both took about 63 seconds to fill the same gallon jug.
If you put each pump on a different timer with each timer on a different power source and set them to run alternately then the worst you could have is one missed cycle until the pump was checked. Sure would save plants that are not visited very often.
