I'm not very computer literate, (that's why I don't post much-I feel kinda out of league with some of the smarter members on this site) this may sound stupid, but I get my kids on weekends, how do I block them from this site and other cannabis sites I go on? I shut down my indoor grow and only grow outdoors just for that reason. I was thinking, some kind of admin. lockout. Any help would be appreciated, even pm me if it's appropriate. I also have a large collections of cannabis pictures in "my pictures" on my comp and don't think they should see that either. I don't know who else to ask, I figured some of the gurus on this site would know the best way to do this. Thanks in advance for the help guys! :confused2:

if i remember back my own childhood, when i was 10-12, there was nothing my parents could hide from me, but of course my dads porn was way more interesting than most other stuff.

Depending on how old your kids are, they might not be interested in plants.

Safest and simpliest way to take care of the prob is to make a backup of everything you want to keep (plant pics etc.), format your harddrive and then reinstall the operating system, after formatting the HD!

There are other ways, but if you are unsure of what your are doing, something might be overlooked (ie you forget to clear the cache, history or cookies, recent documents, etc.) and it still will be there....

Of yourse you can have your kids reinstall the comp, after you completely formatted the HD.

if you go to internet options you will be able to activate a parental control and also block out sites unnapropriate for kids
you can also do this with Norton utilities if you have it installed
BUT;
if your kid wants to access something bad enough they'll figure a way around it
i have told all three of my boys that i can click a button and find out every site they have visited ( its the same programme the police click into after confiscating your computer )
one of my boys did log on to some teen singer nude images, and i confronted him and said logging on to porn sites could get me in a lot of trouble
he never did it again
i think just the embarrasment of my knowing he has reached full on puberty that stopped all of them from trying " to get away without dad knowing", lol
a friend of mine works on computers in Schools so i'll find out how they block out undesireable sites
won't be until after 5.00 pm GMT before i can respond with the details

Thanks for the replies guys!

tj_142:
I run Zone Alarm-free and AVG-free edition. What I did last week was install a nannyware (CyberPatrol), but it is only a 14 day trial, and I'm not interested in buying. My kids are 9 & 10. My problem is, I only have them every other weekend. During the week I want to be able to surf normally. I am in the middle of a bitter bitter custody battle and don't want the kids to see the pics and bring any ammo home to mom. Know what I mean? At the same time, I also have building up my collection of cannabis pics for 4 years and don't want to lose them. So given that I do not have the kids permanently yet, and still want to surf my cannabis sites and keep my pics, don't wanna do something that makes it a pain for me. Just wanna keep my kids out of it for now. When they are mature enough I am sure they will figure it out, but until then.......
Any other advice? Now that you know the situation. Is there any way I could have them log on the comp without having access to browser cache and my pics? I don't know it's hard to explain......this is new for me.
Just when I thought we had kid-proofed the house for their first visit, removing all paraphenilia, High Times, etc..... I looked in the butter drawer in the fridge and my seed collection was still there. So I am overparanoid about missing things that could hurt me. Thanks again for any advice you can offer!

ok,
if running widows xP, set up a "kids" identity as a second user and set parental guidlines. Password protect your identity and the kids will never get to your side of puter without password, now if they are little genius's...well good luck

edit: you need to go to start control panel, users, and set up a kid accountthat way you just switch it to kid account and all your stuff will be particianed off

Right on tj_142! Just what I was looking for. I supervise them while they are here, but it only takes a sec. for them to see the wrong pic, for and allegations to start. If I get placement, Ill just use my old comp. with nannyware just for them. Eventually they'll figure out dads a smoker (look at my friends) lol. But just like my dad, Ill tell them when they are mentally mature enough, Eh.. spark 1.:D
