I'm confused Bro?? If all threads from the Beta version were saved to disk, then the original data was wiped from the US server...what's the problem?

I'm not a tech guy, so I'm just trying to figure out what (if any) the security risk could be from saving the Beta version threads? ;)

The TIME DELAY between the time I HAD an account and NOW has been significant... you have NO IDEA how much water has flowed under the bridge at MY HOUSE....

I MAINTAIN it is borderline DISHONEST and DISHONORABLE to so freely toss around someones PRIVACY by HIJACKING a "supposedly" secure password...

... I'm STILL pissed and expect an EXPLAINATION from the site ADMIN... a PM will do fine... but I will NEED THAT EXPLAINATION!!!!!!!

I'm not an admin, so hopefully one will show up and confirm this, but I believe it works like this:

The site is run by a database that keeps track of all the threads and users. Basically a big file. When the beta site was open, we were all entering data into that file. When the server was changed, the file was moved to a new computer and the program running the site (vBulletin) was started. vBulletin read the file and up came C-W.

Now if you feel that moving that file was a security breach, consider that if they didn't do this, everyones posts and user accounts would be gone forever, and we would have to start from scratch, which wouldn't have made me to happy as I've already put some effort into adding important information to the site. I'm sure others feel the same way.

As far as your account and password are concerned, consider that the Admins always have access to your account and can do as they please. You have to trust them on this. It's the same at all the sites. It would only be truely insecure if your account was matched with your IP.

The real security issue is if the server gets raided, that your IP addy is not recorded. As long as IP's are being regularly erased from the cache, and you use SSL to connect to the site, then this site is about as safe as it's going to get.

C-W has taken precautions to make sure this will not happen. They've updated the code to provent IP's from being recorded for longer than it takes to do your business, and these IP's don't get recorded on the disk. Second is that the server is now based in the Netherlands, where is is likely safe from being raided, especially as the founders of the site are not big-time seed sellers.

Hellboy, it was made perfectly clear from the beginning of C-W 2.0 that the site was beta, and that as soon as issues were worked out and the 'dam server was online, that the site would be moved. By your joining and posting to the beta, as far as I see it you automatically accepted that the site would be moved and your account would go with it. It's not like it was a big deal either way. And it didn't affect your safety in any way either...

I respectfully suggest that if the situation here does not fit with your security concerns or what ever, you just give it up and move on. Why bother with all the trauma? Why subject everyone to all the endless drivel of posts and whining? I saw it last time, and it was tedious. Hopefully with this new site, these types of things can be put behind us. At least I hope so.
